Anybody have successful techniques for restoring chalky paint? Playing around with a squarebody suburban that’s got some pretty shot out white paint. Playing around with the new Harbor Freight DA polisher with supplied generic foam pad and Meguires 105 I had on the shelf. Running the DA on 4.5-5 speed and Lucas slick mist as a moisturizer. Planning on getting some quality pads from chemical guys and some smaller drill attachments for hard to reach areas. Hard to find comparisons but what I’ve found is folks leaning towards Meguires products. Happy with the progress as a first timer but sure there’s more left on the table. Any tips, techniques and suggestions?

Best bet is to do a test spot. Sometimes you can get away with running trough compounds and pads to get you in ballpark. I know here are all sorts of new pads but a wool pad on a da with a heavy compound to start off is my favorite. Then refine from there.

Sometimes compounds aren't enough. I bought some fine sandpaper and started with a good wet sand. 2000, 2500 and 3000 grit, then move to the polishing compounds. As Fabworks said, test it out in a less conspicuous area. My son's Lexus was beat to shit and crusty. Now it glistens again.
