Had this piece break inside our helm. Can’t find a replacement for it. Not opposed to swapping out the entire helm if I can find the right one. Anybody familiar with this?

It’s on a 2004 Caliber 1. Rack and pinion. Tilt steering wheel. Has no distinguishable marks/companies on it but appears to be a teleflex system from what I’m seeing.

This would be a good time to switch over to hydraulic steering, it is much better.

Indeed it is, but hardly necessary unless the boat is capable of 70+ MPH speeds. Full hydraulic is about $5K installed for a single engine.

Why is 70mph the magic number?

Because the real propeller blow out can happen at speeds of 70 mph plus blow out is when the prop washes away the water causing a void or pocket and will throw the drive into full lock turn faster then you can react. Hydronic steering will help keep drive on track.

Idk why people say one speed or another, i notice the biggest in the no wake zone. I’ll never have another boat without full hydraulic steering ever again.
