Probably a fuel pump. Do you use the "low fuel emergency lamp" as a "get fuel" indicator?

How many miles on it?

Not with a 50k 5 year warranty like the GM one. Expensive but worth it compared to aftermarket, unless it's a really well known trans mod guy, then you spend more.

Way cheaper than a new truck.
I agree, but this pos has become a money pit and in mho, exactly what they want/plan for. You get tired of fixing shit and wondering what is next to take a crap 50 miles outside of needles!!!! I WAS a huge GM guy, but I am done now. Looking at my options.

I am in the same boat RB. But when I bought my Suburban, I knew that I would have to sink money into it down the road. The motor runs strong and the trans works fine but I know that it won't last forever. Its paid for and when those two items give up the ghost, I'll simply replace them with new. But I like the way this truck works for our family and I like the way it looks. Keeper for sure!

Where are you taking the Stevens?? What is the game plan?? Can you share it with us or is it top secret?? :D

Ever had the radiator replaced? Did you use a GM radiator? How often did you service that vehicle? Did you do all the work yourself or pay someone?

How much do you tow with it? Did you purchase this vehicle new? Do you have any modifications?

There are 10-20 questions to answer to determine a failure like that RB, not trying to be anything but a voice of reason here.

As far as finding something that will not randomly leave you somewhere, that is really pure luck. A new vehicle with a factory warranty is obviously your best bet, but man, the price to buy in now is insane!

The most dependable vehicles people swear by, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, GM, Dodge, are all the same in the end. Everyone has a story about the "magic truck/suv" that has 300k+ and tows 10k all week long, year after year etc.

There is no such thing, every vehicle manufacturer has failures, even those with exemplary rates of reliability. In 30 years of working on vehicles I have seen the most reliable eat a transmission at 30k (Lexus), and the worst track record for failure go 300k (Mercedes).

I have seen more failures related to improper service or cheap parts than actual manufacturing defects. I have replaced more than a few transmissions that failed, only to find in the end, that they were overheated, due to blocked cooler passages in the aftermarket radiator that had been installed.

I estimate that roughly 60% of the repairs I perform are due to previous mistakes, either in work performed or parts failure from china crap.

Sorry you are having issues, if you do decide to repair it, make sure you explore the actual reason it failed was the point of this post...that and the unicorn is fake. :D

Serviced regularly at gmc and local jiffy lubes. It is an accumulation of little shit that isn’t cheap. How do motor mounts just break at 80,000 under normal usage with occasional towing???
I understand that nuthin last for ever, but if they are trying to build brand loyalty this isn’t how it works.

Made it out of Colusa with a little skin left!!! Stopped at Harris Ranch (Coalinga) for a few stiff drinks and a big slab of cow butt!!! Three different guys in the parking lot stopped to check out the old Stevens. One old guy was on his way back from the wood boat show in Tahoe. Said he has restored boats in much worse shape!!!
