WOW, thanks for the replies guys, Looks like I got some studing to do on this subject
Thanks again

Just do it! If you do not have a smart TV with streaming built in, pick up a FireCube: https://www.amazon.com/All-new-fire...tv&qid=1673808142&sprefix=fire,aps,536&sr=8-5

You probably already have Amazon Prime, yes? If so, you'll have access to all kinna stuff without having to spend an additional dime.

Firesticks are cheaper, but they have less memory (you won't be able to install as many apps, and the sound and picture is better than the stick. It's worth the couple of extra bucks. 👍 Once you get a feel for streaming, THEN you can decide what paid apps you want. They all have free trials, and websites that tell you Exactly what you will be getting on the live side of things.

If you don't have a prime account, I've heard the Roku is good as well. Enjoy your new found cash!! 😁

We dumped DTV and went Hulu live TV which gives us Disney + and ESPN. Then added HBO max, Netflix, prime apps. That covers 99% for us.

They have a commercial free option but I didn’t get that. I need the commercials to go pee and stretch my legs or else they fall asleep. Lol

Bill is half what it was before. Plus I watch a lot less network TV now and stream what and when I want. I feel so liberated not being bombarded with their bias content anymore. if I see any woke content I turn it off immediately and don’t go back. Plenty other stuff to watch

We did that so we can keep NFL and basketball (Comcast sports). I would dump it completely if not for those two things.

The kids stream everything and this gives us access to all of what they want to stream.

The only part I don’t like is I cannot stream LIVE TV at another location on a smart TV without another account. BS. I can stream on my phone anywhere. So at my lake house I just don’t watch live TV. Plenty left to stream. Fuck em their live TV content sux anyway.

Our internet sux there cuz there is no wired internet there and we have a crappy microwave signal internet. I don’t care anymore about live TV because I am so sick of their content I just tuned out….why pay for it anymore.

Spoke Directv today. Present $70 mth situation expires 2/13/23. (The guy (Xavier) explained i gotta call back day or 2 before expiration. He referred to the retention offers as “programs” available to him to retain customers. Wife having no part of losing Jeopardy live. Not interested installing attenna, great it works for many, just not for us.
Correct Taboma, talking to these people with respect works well,if you can understand it all.
Not trying to talk you into it but amazing the channels I get. I think 45 now. Jeopardy and wheel of fortune every night. Fun watching the old game shows too like password and match game etc.
And Grit. Great cowboy western programs

So this is the 1 I have. I have to admit that its a little overwhelming due to how many channels there are (1350 channels).
I figure that 5 ufc fights and it will pay itself off. Its amazing something so simple like this can give you so much. Not that I watch porn but its there plus every subscription such as netflix hbo etc.
I'll include a list of every channel below

DTV here. We have the Premier Package. $220 a month but split between 3 households. We are on borrowed time as once one of the 6 DVR boxes die we won't be able to replace as DTV wants you on the Genie to keep you from sharing. Now the DTV lost NFL I might start looking. I have ran KODI and other streaming software but the wife hates dealing with them. She just wants to hit a few buttons on the remote and watch the cooking channel. SIQ looks interesting. Will keep an eye on this thread. One thing nice about DTV is being able to still watch TV at the river when Optimum goes down. Which is does all the time.

After tons of research we switched to YouTubeTV.
$80 a month.
You get everything and it has an easy to use DVR with a library where you can go to your favorite show and watch it and when a commercial comes up you fast forward right through it.
You can go anywhere and sign into your YouTubeTV account like a hotel, vaca house, airB&B and use it same cost.
Easy to use not complicated.
Every TV, IPAD , phone you have will have YouTubeTV on it now.
Then we added Netflix and Prime.
Total for everything is about $100.

I can still get my hands on a stream smart box I had a while back. I think they went away and support stopped a long time ago. I'm curious and will check that box soon. It is why I went straight to Kodi and a real debrid deal.

I could never figure out how to get the real debrid hooked up to the box etc..

If you got a hook up on a Kodi box with real debrid let me know. I like old movies and the new boxes are pretty much whatever is current with some old stuff thrown in.. 15,000 movies instead of every movie kinda thing.

Firesticks are cheaper, but they have less memory (you won't be able to install as many apps, and the sound and picture is better than the stick.

Joe,
You can add a Gig thumb drive to your firestick and down load all the apps you want. Save your Firestick memory to stream.

This........and for all games, turn off your VPN and go to sportsurge.net or streameast for any sport/ game you want. Just make sure you have fast internet and a little bit of patience for the occasional buffering.. Then jailbreak a fire stick....(google how to) and download BeeTV and Cinema for any movie/ TV series you want.

Dave if you still have an old blue Streamsmart Pro box or any android box for that matter, I would be happy to put a new Kodi build on it for you. I have to factory reset it and wipe anything on it off, but after the new Kodi build and other free apps I put on, they work better and faster than they ever did. You would have to have a real Debrid account. Kodi works great these days, even live TV seems to work good from what I hear, although I never watch live TV myself.

I know you can for sure do that with the cube, but I never tried it with the stick.

We got a new Sony Bravda last year and it had Google TV built in. 👍🏼

I gave all my Fire TV products away except for my old school (non 4k) fire stick. Why?

It has Jackbox TV downloaded on it!

(Jackbox won't let you transfer a download)

If you've never played Quiplash with your drunk adult friends, let's just say, you're missing out on some Serious laughs!

I just switched from FUBO TV to YouTube TV, YouTube is running a three month special at $55. Didn’t really have any problems with fuboTV, but the price went up and I’m not that much into sports.

To you guys with Firesticks...

Chuck it and get a Fire cube. Why?

You can plug a USB stick directly into it. Although I doubt you will need to. I didn't.

If you have a 4k TV, you will instantly notice the better picture.

The faster processer and increased memory levels will give you true Dolby Atmos as well IF you have a DA system, you'll notice the difference there too.

The interface is MUCH faster as well. No more waiting for things to show up and no more stuttering screens watching sports!!

Note: Not every streaming app puts out 4K and Atmos. Disney+, Discovery+ and Prime do for sure. I think HBO Max does, but not all movies were produced that way initially.

I need to figure out how to JB these myself, assuming the cube can be done similar to a stick?

I don't really have any written instructions I use. I cut the cord in 2014 when I purchased my first box from Dave, I think it was an S3. I bought all the new boxes and upgrades as they came out since the old ones stopped being supported. I got tired of buying new boxes or paying for upgrades, even though it was still dirt cheap compared to cable bills. I decided to do some research. After watching a lot of YouTube videos and trying different things on a spare box, I have slowly achieved what I think works best. Turns out I didn't have to buy most of the new boxes or upgrades that I did. I have and old streamsmart pro that works just as good as any of the later ones I bought. How you set the box up makes all the difference.

@Not So Fast

Not sure where you're located, but this guy is a wealth of information if You are in antenna range and have any interest.
You may have to dig a little into his library of videos to find ones that are applicable.
I learned a ton from him and am very happy with our antenna set up.

This is his latest vid where he calls out Nexstar . . .

How often do you have to “reprogram” them? Are you able to get local stuff on them?

I bought a dragonbox a few years ago. It could access a lot of content, but I always thought it was glitchy and not very user friendly.

It's been sitting in a drawer for at least a couple of years. Can I use it for anything worthwhile now?

The one I’m watching right now I’ve had for a couple years? (At least?) and I haven’t touched it.

I’m ordering a couple more for friends tomorrow

I’m going to try Verizon‘s package, when it gets into my area. I’m sure my internet/cable provider will be offering discounts to keep us.

I just cut the cord from DTV today and damn it feels good! saves me $120 per month.

95% of the reason we had it was to watch SX and MX.... now I pay $5 per month for peacock to watch that.

otherwise, most of our TV time was on the youtube app, or netflix here and there.

@RiverDave whats the latest and greated magic box?

The Super Streams I have are just easy to use, and seem to have a ton of content. They don't have some of the old movies like KODI where you could literally get "anything" but it's got more shit than I'll ever watch and I don't have to pick streams etc.. Just click the show / movie and it plays

Can you start watching the event on Peacock anytime after it’s started? Or do you wait until it’s over to start watching?

last weekend was my first time watching it, and I started watching it live, then paused it for 30 min or so and then resumed watching it. There were previous races available to watch as well. Haven't tried the tuning in 1/2 way through the race yet.

I will say their fast forward / rewind setup kinda sucks... it moves really quick and does not show a small pop-up of where you are at... so you kinda have to guess.

I have been able to convert my old boxes to run new software which I subscribe to and my VOD, live TV and KODI apps work great. I find myself using the VOD and Live TV options the most and KODI when I want to watch a movie that I can't find on VOD. The subscriptions are very reliable, cost friendly, and I haven't had any issues. I recently purchased the newest box available which is really fast- When watching live TV it turns on to the same channel you left off from faster than the TV can process booting up. No wait times between channels and easy to use when scrolling through different channel groups. What I have found, is that if you can get a solid service provider, you won't have to worry about reliability or problems streaming. I have also become familiar with 3rd party IPTV apps that are able to login with your service credentials that make watching TV and VOD super easy.
