Switch to Rev4 from B1 prop?

Considering going from a 24P Bravo 1 prop to a 23P Rev4 in my 496 powered Lavey NuEra 26. I started a thread a while back concerned about my unusually high slip numbers and lower speeds, even compared to boats with an identical setup, and since then learned that my prop was damaged and repaired at some point. I think that might explain the slip. Should I go for a box stock 24P B1 or try the 23P Rev4?

Why not try one against the other and see what ya like? The revolution is a great prop and I can share my experiences with it, but they are going to be different as you have a completely different boat..

Interested in this thread, I took out my new to me 26 Nuera last week and was underwhelmed to say the least. It has a 24p 4 blade on it. There was 4 people in the boat and approx 70 gallons of fuel. I never could find a good stretch of smooth water to get numbers on the rpm's and top speed, but I feel like the boat wouldn't reach 60 mph. The boat is an 05 496 ho, approx 250 hours.

Completely different boat but I'll chime in on my experience. Rev4 25p vs B1 26p on a 9k lbs twin engine deep V straight bottom. Rev4 hooked up better out of the hole, I always babied it to save the drives but it was noticeable. Cruise speed was faster for given RPM but also topped out sooner. I usually carried a heavy loadout so put the B1 26p back on and left it at that. The B1 is a good all around prop for varying loads. I know I was heavy and pushing B1 outdrives beyond their designed capabilities which is why I kept the more forgiving prop on the drives.

I went with the Rev 4's for the Bow Lift. The B1's created too muck bow bouncing.

I would try a non altered 24 B1. I have both props and in my Cobra 26. The 23 takes more to spin it is more like a 25 B1. I tried a 25 rev and couldn't get the rpms up high enough. I can spin a labbed 26 b1 to rev limiter for comparison.

This x1000 for me. Rev 23 felt like a B1 25 with a better ride.

I am running a B1 24 now, but am going to have my B1 23 labbed to bring up the RPM a bit. B1 24 works well, but I feel a labbed Rev 23 will be perfect.

Teague goes over props in one of his teague talks and he covers the difference in detail. Check it out it's worth the hour.

I have a stock bravo 24 and a 23P cutting edge 5 blade. Ran both on my 2750. The 5 blade was much more efficient then the B1. Your welcome to test them.

When you say compared to identical set up do you mean another lavey same size same package? Or a different hull same size same motor?

I certainly don't think it's the condition of your prop.;) I wouldn't be too concerned yet, that's a big boat to get up to speed in poor conditions.

Someone else with a Lavey 26 and 496 HO mentioned cruising at 50 mph and 4000-4200 RPM. Same RPM's would have me at 40-45. Same 24P Bravo 1 prop, but with mine being repaired at some point. Mine isn't an HO but I figured that wouldn't make a difference given the same 1.50 drive ratio.

Best bet is call the manufacturer or person who built the boat . Once you decide you need a new propeller, you’re jumping down the propeller rabbit hole . Start with maybe a stock Bravo 1 , data log everything, then take that propeller to a reputable prop shop and have it tweaked to suit your needs .

The hp and tq of the HO is better so it’ll have a different cruise rpm etc. the HO is 50hp and 40 tq higher than the mag, also the way boat A was loaded vs boat B will change things. You can literally have the exact same weight in both boats, but in different spots and things will be drastically different.

The HO does make a difference but i would not see it taking you down to 40 mph at 4k rpm. The 24p maybe right on the edge of to big for the mag if you are full of fuel and people. I know my cousin had the 24 nuera and ran a 22P bravo with zero issues.

Personally I would be trying a 5 blade. Probably the cutting edge.

You can also take your 24p to a reputable shop in CA where they can check the pitch to make sure its right and lab to make the gains you want.

The lavey 26 is a big 26 and heavier then some. Great boat.
