Good stuff Dave! Somewhere around here I have video that Gordy gave me of Gordon Sr's first race boat launching in San Diego. I was pretty young the first time I remember seeing Liberty racing at Long Beach. :)

VanBeenen is a national treasure! Hope he's doing well! Julian told me the tragic story and before getting to know Julian I didn't realize he and Gordon were friends.

When I met Van Beenen at lake San Antonio back in 1996 he gave me a pretty gnarly ride across the lake in this boat. I'm sure you know this was a pretty light boat and the lake was far from calm that day. lol

Haha.
My last ride with VanBeenan I split my heel open on the passenger foot pedal!
Sometimes the old circle boat racer comes out in him!😂
He’s doin great.
Turns 84 in a month.
Still comes up every other Saturday or so for lunch, bench racing and cocktails.
Luv the guy!

So do I!
I’d restore it for free!
Gotta wonder what happened to it!

I asked Gordy about it 20 something years ago. Back then he said it was in Orange county and that he knew who owned it. Haven't asked since so I wonder at this point if he still has a line on it.

Was on the road this week but made some progress today.
It was chop saw/table saw day.
Trimmed all the rails to size back to the strut support also trimmed and cut to size the v drive, seat and tank mounts.
The floor looked like I sprayed it with Silver Metal Flake!😂
I really dig this vintage Moon stack tank!

The late Jack Cayer in George and Ernie Litchfield’s UFF coming out of the Marina in Bakersfield in 1977.
He is on the Down and on the Throttle.
Burnouts coming out onto the lake were always cool!

Warpt71 has informed me of Glenn Robertson's passing. John Villegas introduced me to him at a Needles vacation maybe 99 or 2000. Just a super cool guy! I don't have much in the way of photos, but I'll post what I have. RIP Glenn.

Glenn and John out for a ride.

Thanks Jerry! Ive only ever seen one of those pics, good stuff. Glenn and that Hondo are a huge reason why I love dragboats as much as I do. That was my first really fast ride in a flat, thanks Glenn!!!! Race In Paradise #521

Leaving on Tuesday for a week and a half sales trip between Phoenix and Las Vegas so tried to get some stuff done on the Long Deck.
Finished the Tank Mounts(still needs some trimming), got the cav rod run. Was able to do some machining on the OG thru-hull to get way more travel out of it. Made the strut support mount. Still need to attach to the rails though. Bolts will be countersunk when done as will the matching rows that will hook the support up to the rails.

Got the vdrive roughed in today as well.
Still need to trim up the brackets, but she’s in nice and straight.
This line up is so critical.
My process is to use a tool I made to get the shaft log flat on the floor and the shaft centered in the shaftlog using the sleeve to achieve this. I’ve pulled apart so many boats where the shaft isn’t completely centered and it rubs on the shaft log and abuses the shaft seal because it is pulled one way or the other.
Then I have a selection of sleeves that I use to line up the prop shaft and output shaft on the vdrive. They are machined to .010 over the shaft size. That way the shafts are perfectly true to each other.
