So this morning my brother, my nephew and myself rode out to Wendover to see a WW2 B-29 Bomber named "Doc" that was in town for a couple of days. It is one of only two B-29's still flying in the whole world. Wendover was the training ground for B-29's during World War 2. There is a hanger there that originally housed The Enola Gay, it is in the process of being restored as are a few other historic buildings there. The hanger they used to house "Doc" overnight during his stay was also from the WW2 era, it was the first time there had been a B-29 parked inside in over 70 years! There is a lot of cool history at the airbase including a museum.
Anyway, I was talking to one of the crew members of "Doc" and told him my dad was a Colonel in the C.A.F. and use to put on the Labor Day Airshows in Salt Lake. I asked if there was any way they would consider taking Dad's ashes for a ride? He replied "It would be an honor!" I got a little choked up as I was thanking him. He then said "you know what would even be more of an honor?, If you came with us" I about shit! They were charging everyone else $600 for a ride! Most of the seats didn't even have windows, they put me in the Main Gunner's seat which is the bubble on the very top of the plane! It was an incredible experience!
I told my brother "I think that was Dad's way of saying thanks for all of the adventures I have sent his ashes on!"

Years ago when Dad was doing the Airshows here in SLC he got me a ride in this B-17
I rode in the Gunners Turret on the top of it too. Pretty amazing and humbling to have flown in these two incredible War Birds!
Thanks Pops, I Love You!

That's awsome!! Damn. My dad was instructor in both types. He was set to be transferred to the 509th bomb group as the war ended. What an awesome experience for you

Great story!!
My son and I got a ride in “Fifi” a few years ago. Was supposed to be my Dad and I, but at 82 he couldn’t climb inside, so my son went instead.

Awesome story and cool you got a ride! I‘ve lost plenty of $$$ in the metropolis of “Bendover”😂
