If I asked Blidoe where the big crack in the desert is he'd tell me Big Helen at the Cherry Patch Ranch.

Anyone have the GPS location or can find the GPS location to find it out in the desert? Googling it and other searches isn't turning anything up,,,, yet.
Someplace between Ridgecrest and Trona and that's a big area.

Wife wants a selfie with it.

Got to say if I was sure I didn't fall down the crack I would love to have been there and seen that happen.

I rememebr going quail/Dove hunting with my Pop near landers in the early 90's. The ground had heaved 4' in some places. There were houses that were literally split in half with one side being 3-4' higher in elevation.

Did you go into Trona? I heard it was hard hit - worse than Ridgecrest. What did you see there?

In my experience, just haul ass through an unknown area of desert, preferably in a buddy's truck or SxS.

I promise you you'll find a washout or a dropoff you didn't see coming:rolleyes:
Or buddys bike. Friend did that a black rock / 4th. They think by the end of this week the swelling maybe gone down enough to put his face back together.

The earthquake that caused the tsunami in Thailand several years back was later discovered to be cause by the ocean floor rising 40 feet in under 1 second for a distance of over 700 miles. They found the ledge underwater. Crazy.

This crack is pretty small in comparison but would be cool to watch it happen from a close safe distance.

We did a project at Trona High School on the Gymnasium a few years ago. Called out there to see how it held up, the building is still together but is now 17" out of level. Even being thrust that much the Feds have only "yellow" tagged it at this point.

I go wheeling out there often. Glad I wasn't going over chicken rock when the quake hit! There was a 12' upheave on the base. Saw some pics on fakebook but can't find them now.

Heard on KFI that people are flooding out to that area to try and get selfies. What a bunch of idiots.

Preliminary map of the surface ruptures from the July 4 M6.4 and July 5 M7.1 southern California earthquakes based on field mapping, aerial reconnaissance and satellite imagery. The orange lineation is the surface rupture for the M7.1 earthquake. The gold lineation is the surface rupture for the M6.4 earthquake. The light blue line outlines the Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) at China Lake.

I can't even fathom the amount of pressure required to create a 12' Vertical Thrust & 13' Lateral Thrust. I've been down to Painted Canyon near Salton Sea and seen where the San Andreas Fault has Vertical Thrusts up over 200' High, so maybe 15X-20X even more powerful than the Ridgecrest Quake. Now that is Crazee !!! Hope that one never lets loose

Not the bet way to find a dropoff. 2 of my buds in HS were chasing deer in a VW SuperBeetle. They're cruising along laughing as the deer are running strong kicking up sod and sticks. I stride the deer leap and easily clear a 20' wide wash. The VW doing about 20mph, not so much. they hit the other bank well short of clearing......

VW's are resilient. They managed to get it running and finished knocking out the windshield the guy riding shotgun smashed to hell. Driver ended up with cracked ribs from the steering wheel. They managed to drive home and get their dumb asses ate out by the driver's Dad.:D

Something about the term, "the earth's crust", always has given me a chill:eek:

George Carlin said that he laughed at the bumper stickers, save this, save that...save the planet. The planet was here a billion years before us. We aren't even a zit on it's ass. Save the planet? It'll be just fine!
