I bought this semi commercial zapper about a year ago and it has done very well to keep night time bugs away. Have it mounted on the garage eve behind the FP. Well the last week or so we have been getting some fairly large participant's on their kamikaze entrees...those small brown Japanese Beatles really go down a slow death it seems. Those things can fry, spark and pop for a good 8-10 sec. Gonna have to try and record one...

We have one exactly like that, fun to sit out at night and watch it zap away, we call it Trailer Park Theatre....

My grandpa had one like that on his farm. Had a 5 gallon bucket with water under it, it was full of bugs. Some of the bugs just get zapped and don't die and will fall down, the bucket catches them and drowns them. As a kid it was like a light show for us.

Saw my first Zapper back in the 80's at Antlers Resort at Shasta. It was positioned on the dock. MY wife and I would make a cocktail, head down to the dock and sit there for an hour and watch this thing work. We were mesmerized by this thing.

Works great for squitos, but keep it away from the immediate area where you're sitting, because the blue light attracts them. Also very bright white (Bluish) leds attract them, so for outdoor patio lighting, stick with very warm colors of the temperature spectrum < 3,000K, you get up into the 4,500 to daylight 6,000k and those are now bug lights that don't zap.

That was the main reason I bought it.
Like stated put it away from your primary area and try to keep your lighting below 3k.
