Yessir.

What we think of "roughing it" or going out exploring in the desert or mountains is very different from how it used to be. I don't even think it is relative.

They had one thing.....balls. It took a big set of balls to head out into the wilderness on your own.

Like comparing apples and oranges. These guys had wagons to carry their balls. They were some hard guys for sure.

Love this series! Did you see the last one a couple of years ago, The Industrialists (I think)?

This thread fell all the way down to page 11 by this morning. This Frontiersmen Series and the stories told deserves to make it back to page 1 IMO and I'm not even a History Buff...

I think you are referring to the original series, "The Men Who Built America"
Yeah that was an excellent series as well.

Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and Henry Ford are names synonymous with innovation and big business in America. They all built empires and created advances in technology. They helped shape the country in its early days by doing things such as developing the models for modern railroads, creating the modern financial system and making cars accessible to the masses. The men came from meager beginnings to build their respective empires, which helped formulate the concept of the American Dream. This series profiles the lives of these early visionaries and includes perspectives from such modern business icons as Mark Cuban, Alan Greenspan, T. Boone Pickens and Jack Welch.

First episode date: October 16, 2012

Another one I found interesting.

You know their names -- Ford, Chrysler, Dodge -- but do you know the stories behind the visionaries who built America's automobile industry? This three-part special chronicles the journeys taken by the likes of Henry Ford, Walter Chrysler and the Dodge brothers as they worked their way up to the top of the industry to become legendary brands whose vehicles are coveted by car enthusiasts and collectors. Character-driven re-enactments and rare archival footage are used to showcase the career trajectories taken by the featured subjects. In addition to the aforementioned figures, the program discusses the careers of General Motors co-founder William Durant, automobile executive Lee Iacocca, and John DeLorean, whose namesake car has become a part of American pop culture. Among the show's executive producers is Dale Earnhardt Jr., whose family is synonymous with cars through its racing legacy.

I loved The Men Who Built America but the way that History cuts these shows drives me crazy. They are completely unwatchable streaming without commercials and with commercials they are barely tolerable. Every time they come back from commercial they take 3 minutes recapping what happened before the commercial and then they introduce 5 minutes of new content before cutting to another commercial. Instead of dong 6 hours they could cut it into 3 without all the recaps. The content itself is phenomenal. Is the Frontier one as bad with the catch up segments after each commercial?

I haven't seen the series.
I remember reading about Henry Ford and the relationship between him and the Dodge brothers and the how's and whys of Dodge deciding to go into the car buisness. Pretty interesting stuff!

how things could have turned out so different if certain things men/ women were not involved.

really taught me alot , kinda ashamed didnt know more what was being shown.

this should be shown in every school in the US , but probably not PC enough so wouldnt be...

I’m really surprised that political correctness hasn’t scrubbed this history...

I think of that guilt every time I walk into one of their casinos. However, I lose that guilt every time I walk out of one of their casinos...

LMAO but oh so true!

No doubt.

However some folks are unaware of why the name "savages" was used. Tribes massacred one another and tortured and maimed with no conscience. A few years ago a book came out called Empire of the Summer Moon, about Quanah Parker a leader of the Comanches and their 40 year battle with Americans moving west. Plenty of blame on both sides, but some spots of the book I had to put down as the description of mutilations was just too much.

Why did the United States become the global superpower? “America The Story of Us” is an epic 12-hour television event that explores the country's remarkable journey.
Released in 2010 and narrated by “Ray Donovan”.
