The bottom pic looks to be a newer version of the top pic. Look at the differences in the full windshield as opposed to the windscreen and the teal deck vs. the white deck.

I think you are correct.. In the pilot they used a Chris Craft, but in the actual series the used a Wellcraft 38 KV Scarab. I think the top pic is of the Chris Craft and the other pics are of the Scarab... My parents had a Wellcraft dealership in the mid-late 80'd right when Miami Vice was in the peak.. We got to go to a dealer meeting in Sarasota, Fl one summer and the had Don Johnson and a few other cast members of the cast show up. I got a ride in a 38 KV with the vice graphics and still remember how cool it felt.
