Today’s run....My son rode and drove today.
Believe it or not, I raced a helicopter. Swear to God. Epic day. Videoed the start, but had my hands full at 110 mph in not so good water. It was surreal while it lasted. I need a go pro with good batteries.

Helicopter vs Cougar .... a very good race!
We ran the entire south fork with him right above me. Maybe 75’ over the water. His blades were so loud I couldn’t hear my engine. Pumped enough adrenaline to fill a gas can. I love boating. You never know what’s next.

We ran a few miles with him right above me...I was running 110 mph on the long straightaway, and he stayed right in the same place. We finally came to the bridge and he went up higher ...water conditions were dwindling in the main channel, so we backed off. I wish the pilot and I could have a beer together and bullshit about that little contest. I don’t know the stats on that helicopter, but I know he must have been laughing the whole way while chasing me.
If I only had a bigger engine....

I can’t tell from the photograph but it looks like some type of eurocopter. If that’s the case their cruise speed can be somewhere around 140 possibly maxing out around 170 mph.

I’m sure your motor is bigger and more powerful than my little motor.

Spinning in or out ? My boat prefers spinning out. Might have lost 1-2 mph but the overall feel & handling is MUCH better along with better in rough water.

View attachment 886023 Maybe the Bully will describe the sensation. My thoughts are I bet it feels light !
Prop diameter is the crucial factor with this set up and engine combo. 15’s or even 14 3/4’s ....too much diameter causes rear lift.
Incredible boat. That’s a dream set-up for anywhere. Perfect for Havasu.

Ok. Congregation here you go.
My 2020 winter project took a little bit longer than I was anticipating. But I’m very happy with the outcome.
Numbers are from first day out. Initial testing. Once I drop 100 gallons Of fuel and raise the engines numbers will improve. For day 1 I am extremely happy with the numbers.

14 3/4x38 Mercury cleavers. With less fuel raising the engines lowering the water pressure into the 20 psi range slip numbers will be in the low single digits where they need to be. Then everything will happen. Also other props are on the way.

Had a FANTASTIC day riding with Rick in his 28 Skater yesterday. It's a 1994 that looks damn near brand new. Thanks to Dan for buying lunch @ Rio City, great food. 135 miles & hit 110 mph with 3 people. His boat is dialed with 38 gallon ballast tank & trim tabs for rough water. What a pleasure to ride with a true offshore champion. Water got rough after we passed Rio Vista on the way back, went from legit 2-3' to much bigger, so we hung a left & cut thru 3 mile slough & back to Pittsburg. Wiped it down then had the "pleasure" of a jet boat guy coming over to tell us about his mail order bride from Vietnam.........
