Leaving in the morning to pre-run & race the Baja 1000 for the Janesky/Honda team. Loading up the chase trucks today.

I’ll try to keep this thread updated. StarLink should help so we should have good service. I’ll be riding right seat from about race mile 350 to race mile 800.

I’ve never realized what the human body is capable of when you’re sleep deprived until I raced Baja. The brain is an incredible thing. I’ve slept standing up and eyes open waiting on the car to arrive for us disappear into the night.

See you all on the other side of the finish line. Going to be an adventure…

Good luck to you and the crew! It is awesome to see Larry and his son going for it over the years, his youtube movies are sweet! Also, seeing how it does business and expanded it is amazing too! Enjoy the food and views!

… Yeah … Race safely and keep us posted… I pre-ran the Parker 400 sometime in the late 70s riding shotgun… in a Baja bug… no modern suspension… And yes, it can take a toll on your body… Slept on a cement picnic bench somewhere on the river…which actually made some of the pain go away🤷🏽‍♀️

They’re doing another documentary on our team this year, again. Should be interesting.

Into the dust…

I didn't know that was your team, my 4 year has seen all the "into to the dust" movies and when my 5 month old gets fussy I'll put on baja videos and it keeps him happy

That’s awesome!! Ya my kids love watching all the Into The Dust movies as well. The house is quiet and peaceful when it’s on lol.

This next one I think is Into The Dust #5. It won’t land for a few months with all the editing and whatever else they do.

Oops, forgot my helmet at home 🤪

Either the girlfriend drives it down to me or pay the $1200 for a new one at contingency on Thursday. I brought my backup helmet but it’s not the same.

Fucking amateur hour at the biggest race of the year 😂

I started with the original dust to glory and they were hooked from there

Last day of pre running then shoot to Ensenada tonight and tech/contingency tomorrow.

The course through San Felipe is fucked up. The Trophy’s have hammered it. The course from Ensenada to San Quintin is rough too. It’s part of the course that was run during the Baja 400, NORRA 500 and now the Baja 1000. It’s tore up but exciting.

The countdown to Friday start has begun but, before we begin our day, breakfast first…

Contingency with Larry being interviewed, team owner.

Film crew has been cool. No lack of tacos and ceviche.

Nothing left to do but wait for our Honda chariot to arrive so we disappear into the desert night for our 8 hour’s worth of racing section tomorrow.

Now for another round of tacos in Valle De Trinidad (best in all of Baja) and let the chips fall where they may starting tomorrow.

In Scorpion Bay did you see the white dude driving his Pinto with no doors, and a goat in the car with him?

Did I mention I love Baja?

Keep the pics coming, I’m living vicariously thru you.
@rivrrts429 , you are not referring to Scorpion Bay in San Jaunico are you? Seems to far down, must be another one...........

Well we survived it. Roughest course ever this year. Last years 1400 mile course was nowhere near as difficult as this one and it was only 865 miles this year. Holy hell it was haggard. A lot of the course had been raced prior so the course was beat to shit in many places. The Trophy’s can take a beautiful trail and turn it into a war zone in minutes. Big tires and big horsepower make big holes 😂

It was a great race. Tire issues really hurt our time. Our sister race team destroyed their car at race mile 228 so their chase crews joined up with ours from RM228 to the very end so we had double the resources but it didn’t pan out for us.

It’s a fine line to balance weight savings and with rarely any tire issues our race cars opt to run a single spare tire. The other side of that coin is when one of those rocks that is shaped like a knife punctures two tires at the same time in the middle of nowhere Mexico where no chase crew can help 😂

Honestly, in all the years racing that has never happened before but, that’s racing. If racing Baja was easy (or cheap) then everybody would do it lol

I’ve got no disappointments. It was a max effort deal again this year to repeat our last years Baja 1000 win and this year we ended up 3rd or 4th on corrected time.

My section was from Gonzaga Bay to Valle De Trinidad. The course was haggard, like beat to shit hammered and those of you who know what San Felipe whoops are like understand why no driver/co-driver volunteers to run that section but I did 😂
Not only did my team mate and I volunteer for that section it put us on the course from about midnight to 8am. Basically in the dark with the caveat that the good lord would bless us with the most amazing sunrise ever if we could make it through the night safely. Turns out he made good on his promise and we made good on ours. The sunrise was amazing and Baja is a magical place at that hour. The desert is very much alive. It was worth it being awake for 30 straight hours to experience that.

The human brain is a powerful thing. Just as the sunrise was about to spring up your brain sort of goes into screensaver mode if that makes sense? It’s a pretty surreal feeling and you have to talk yourself through it but it just sorta shuts off from exhaustion although you’re fully conscious.

Then that sun begins coming up and it’s like the most powerful blast of coffee and adrenaline and it’s like you just woke up from the best sleep ever except your bed was inside a race car for a few hundred miles.

… and you can’t wait to do it again!

Made it across the finish line around 1:30 yesterday. Friends and family caught us on the livestream. Thanks everyone for following along. Maybe I’ll do something similar and improve the thread when we do other races.

Not a bad view waiting for the race car to arrive sitting by the fire pit.

Film crew doing the documentary on our team was fun. They were chasing us around all week trying to get us to play along with them. They finally cornered my buddy. I had to snap this picture to make fun of him. Neither one of us like camera time. We have faces for radio, not television 😂

I didn’t get any pictures of the helicopter chasing us around the race course at daybreak but that was awesome. The film crew hired a pilot and spent a couple hours following us. We pulled into the pits to hand off the race car for the final section to the finish and everyone was laughing. Apparently everyone thought it was a chase helicopter and now UTV’s have joined the trophy truck crowd $$ 😂

I had to explain the real reason for the helicopter. Everyone thought it was hilarious.

If you’ve ever raced Baja you know achieving one of these “Finisher” medals is about as good as winning it. Many people don’t get these so I’m always grateful when we do.
