So having the dilemma again, old school M/T's (have to use spacers) and logs and snails or EMI thunder and angled covers. I am going to paint heads intake timing cover and pan light metallic silver as well as the transmission and V drive . Powder coating mounting brackets candy blue.

I loved the old school logs, had a real nice set of NICSON manifolds and snails, I ended up destroyer the block when I filled up number 6 with water. the only thing we can think of is it had to push up thru my tips as I wasnt running a flapper. I have the motor very low in the boat, my drive shaft is right at 1/2 inch above my floors and I clocked the snails to be at the same angle as the valve covers. Was teaching a young man the ski so we were back and forth in big waves and when she locked up she bent everything. I just swapped over to Dana exhaust and down tubes, been out a couple times and no issues... so far... with this boat I am keeping my fingers crossed. I had to notch my hatch a bit but everything is still under the cover, at first start up it was a noticeable difference in sound for sure and I am breaking the prop loose out of the hold, torque is noticeable up and we put the same basic engine back together just 60 over vs 30. I run Nicson logs on my flat and have no intention of changing them but felt it was necessary for the day cruiser.

Yeah my deal is I am going with 4" tips and spacing is different on off the shelf parts. I like those tails they do not mix the water until the tip.

The Tips on the Spectra are 4" those tubes are double wall water cooled 4.5" reduced to 4" the water comes in at the top of the manifold. the reducer on the tips in the picture was for the old snails, that was cut off, the picture is deceiving as the reduced tail pipe looks to be the same size as the reduces tips but it 4". I thought it was 3.5 when I picked them up. The guys at Marine industries West build these to fit each boat.

Hmmm, build from scratch, reuse axles, cut up old trailer, transfer old Vin and plates to new creation, go boating. Not a bad idea.

Progress looks great.

I take it you didn't go to the Havasu Trump parade. In the rdp video, a double step day cruiser at the 36 second is mark looks like yours. Or mine.

Dayum, that is going to be one STOUT trailer. Looking great and I love the bronze bushings in the rollers, you must have a steep driveway or someplace thats gonna need em. Are you going to run bolts with zerks?

No steep driveway just protecting underwater gear better than it was. Thought about it on the bolts.

A little jiggy
IMG_6742.JPG

Raised it 1 3/4 in rear and to get bow level it came up 3 1/4" it sits fairly tall on trailer but do not want to drag gear. I think most production trailers weer jet or IO modified to fit v drive. I can't stand nose down rigs!

So I am on the fence about this. Had a float bar and i want it to be easier for me to load solo. Winch mounts just above brace and jack will just fit in between. I just think it looks reeeeeal tall ! any other design Ideas?

How about a U-bolt with a fabricated bolt-together pulley about 1” down from your bow stop to use the winch where it’s sitting?

Or if you were confident that you could get the boat all the way to the bow stop each time you could bolt two pieces of stainless strap steel on each side of the post and run a pin through them and the bow eye. Just a thought.

Very nice!

Tell us more about your home powder coat set-up. Every time I take a bunch of CS little parts down to my PC guy I think, I should just figure out how to do this myself...

Simple as it gets+free electric oven, Eastwood dual voltage gun and some good powder. I am into it for $300 at this point with powder so that doesn't take long at a shop! Prep is key sand blast/pre-heat to get shit out of material /wipe down with acetone etc

So doing a little cooter coating color tests. Found a silver that is about as close as you can get to my paint that I am going to use on engine. Have color match for candy blue also.

elim21- you are doing a great job on this project. Question for you. Where did you get the trailer coupler chromed? did you buy the unit already chromed or did you need to send out? Thanks

So found a little rot in water jacket , bead blasted and epoxied them. Powder coat will bond to JB then powder coated both jackets. Learned that the clear coat I am using dose not like to be close to oven elements as it will yellow a bit. I can tell but I am not going to re coat PITA. Waiting for tape to show up to coat bearing caps. Thinking of doing them in candy blue as that is going to be accent color for boat.

So I did this as a trial , would have to shorten it so hook will pass by. any other ideas??????
That is a really cool idea/design! You need to be careful though as the different ramp angles and water levels can cause contact with the boat in unintended areas. You would need a SS contoured armor plate area up around there to give yourself insurance against that potential damage.
Looks awesome though!

I am patient (sort of) But I want it how I want it and not going to short cut it. Although I may buy another 'get me by' lol

Great job! If you don't mind me asking, what size tube thickness did you use for the trailer beams?

Thank you! Planning to build a trailer soon and wanted a general idea. Was thinking 3/16 or 1/8. 1/8 sounds good.
