Same with me, usually wake up between 3 and 4, does not matter at all when I go to bed, I pee, have a glass of water, look at the clock, and go back to bed. Most times I'll fall back asleep!

Hell by 3:00 AM I’ve usually peed at least twice. These days it’s the 4:00 AM poo that really bugs the wife, especially since she gets up at 4:45 and I’m usually just getting back in bed around 4:30. 😳

3 years ago I started commuting in a vanpool 110 mile roundtrip after being 7 miles from work for 20 years. I’d go to bed about 10pm to be up at 4:15. Would usually wake up between 2:00 and 3:00 and couldn’t go back to sleep. Usually had to go to pee, but also my mind would just start racing. The last 6 months have been better, commute has been better since Covid hit.
Some strenuous exercise during the day and stretching before bed seems to help, just need to do it more often.

This was also a new thing I experienced since commuting. Mines was up and it would feel like my heartbeat was faster than it should be while sleeping. And now my BP is a little better. Still need to work on it.

4:30 to 5 for me. Go downstairs make coffee and try and watch some news or something until I wake up the wife. I was waking up several times in the night, I think it was some sleep issues. I have dropped some weight and have been sleeping through the night much better, but eyes still open at the same time.

I only sleep about an hour at a time for a grand total of 3-4 hours a night. I usually get up, take a pee, grab a snack, check my phone etc., then grab another hour. Its gotten much better now since I started taking edibles before bed, prior to that I didnt really sleep much at all.

I think a lot of mine was stress/weight related. Never had the issue before last year (covid restrictions did a number on our business)...and it went bad quick. Now that its finally under control I'm seeing a lb or 2 drop a week plus sleeping better. Ive had a heart issue before, and my BP was the highest I've ever seen it. It was a night and day difference.

Stop having dessert. Stop eating past 8PM. Drink water only.

Melatonin is awesome, but for it to work it's a regiment. You take it religiously every night at the same time, it's supposed to get you to sleep, and allow you to get BACK to sleep after waking up to pee. I find it wears off after 6 hours myself, but shit, 6 hours of good rest is awesome compared to 4 hours of on and off.

Melatonin works good but if your not making it through the night then make sure your getting time released melatonin. Also guys since we're all getting older you may want to start using a product called Super Beta Prostate. I have found that it helps minimize the late night/early morning bathroom runs.

If I go to bed before 10, which I've been doing the last year or so, I just wake up at 1 or 2 with my mind clicking. I just get up and do some computer work or read & end up falling back to sleep. I've learned to embrace it actually. I get some shit done & nobody's around. Nice & peaceful. Then I might take a nap if I'm home in the afternoon.

Oh yea, I wake up a few times a night to piss as well. I drink a shitload of water, even at night. All good, just the way it is. Sleeping's for the weak is what I say LOL.

I have been taking ZZZ (not for colds/flu) before I go to bed, works great. Melatonin and over the counter sleep pills make me have nightmares

Have a sleep study done, you may have sleep apnea if you’re getting up multiple times to go pee. I was doing that, but after using the breather mask I can sleep all night, but I have to nod off then wake up before i put the mask on otherwise i pay attention to my breathing.

It happens alot. I do it. I handle it like this: maybe - relax and treat it as natural, maybe capitalize on it by reading or doing some other productive activity (trim trees with chainsaw, practice your guitar riffs?) that may even get you fatigued enough to feel tired again. siesta when you can later if necessary.

(Note: my woman can't achieve this relaxation though...she is kind of type-A so she has to achieve, and if she cannot sleep she seems to treat it as 'failing to sleep' and it gets frustrating and causes her to think about why she cant sleep and her adrenaline goes up and she gets more concerned about what is bugging her and her mind races and...tailspin. avoid this if you can. I've tried to help her adjust her thinking about the conundrum, but change is hard...)

There is also research that shows it's kind of an aberration for us to fit into the 9a-5p work 9p-5a sleep pattern because as humans we were conditioned for millions of years to remain vigilant overnight. Biphasic/polyphasic sleep is kind of built into us.

(quoting article from Psychology Today: "Ekirch (2001, 2006, 2016), has done important work in documenting different sleep patterns in the preindustrial world. The historical evidence indicates that people in the Middle Ages were up for an hour or more in the middle of the night and thought of sleep as occurring in two segments: first sleep and second sleep. In many ways, this makes sense because being awake during the night has certain advantages. At that time, one could stoke the fire, check the defenses, have sex, and tell tall tales. We don’t think much about it now, but before gas and electric lighting, the night could be a frightening time. ')

Do you use a cpap? I never experienced the symptoms you’re describing until I started using a cpap 2 years ago. I kid you not, my internal clock will wake me up at 330 and once the mask comes off, we’re off to the races because I have to piss like a fucking racehorse.

If you haven't tried Melatonin take it! Start with less than 1 pill each night. It takes about 20 minutes to start working but the best thing about it is it will help you go back to sleep once you've woken up.

As for peeing all night long - stop drinking so much before bedtime - that'll help

The peeing thing hasn't been any real problem for me, it's my mind being active.
But you're spot on, especially the stop drinking part. An hour or two before bedtime makes a world of difference. This has really helped my wife.
Melatonin for sure makes my wife have even more bizarre dreams than her normal weird dreams🙃
An alternative herb to Melatonin would be Valerian Root, less weird dreams.

Its not a good idea to take melatonin regularly. Your body produces it to assist in sleep. If you are taking it too often and regularly, your body can stop producing it resulting in a lot of other issues.

I’ve been told I’m a natural meth head by my friends since high school! They would spend the whole day doing meth and I would be smoking weed and never fall asleep. My dads the same way we just constantly have things running through our heads and we can’t sleep. He’s 81 and never sleeps more than 4hrs a night.

I use to have this problem a lot. Would have to be up for work @ 4:30am and like clockwork I would wake up @ 2:30am and could rarely go back to sleep. I tried Melatonin a few times and it makes me sleep so deep that when I do wake up it's like I've just come out of a coma, lol. I've found that going for a 1 to 2 mile walk every day after dinner helps me burn off what ever extra energy I have, and probably helps to regulate my blood sugar and/or blood pressure (not sure). I sleep much better now. Not sure if this helps but it's what I do now.

Your body produces it: correct. There's no indication it's bad for adults or that your body stops making it.

It works. It's natural and non-narcotic.

Story of my life, I've never been able to sleep. I take Ambien and usually a melatonin gummy to get me to go to sleep.

Took ambien at 11. Stared at the ceiling until 5, got no sleep and I’m wide awake.

Listened to three complete sleep hypnosis vids (screen was off) and some soothing sounds/music, could barely focus on the guys voice, my mind was still racing.

But I have mild tinnitus so silence/quiet is literally deafening.

Have a bunch of appts setup with docs. I think rather than focusing on sleep meds, maybe we should focus on slowing my brain down.

We’ll see.
This sucks, especially with the newborn...

Very low dose antidepressants can be used for sleep and pain, at least something to research.

The low hanging fruit has long since been picked.

Hit and miss for me. They work as often as they don’t.

Ive never really had insomnia for more than a couple nights. I’m going on 4 nights now, tonight will be #5.

We’ll see that the doc says this afternoon.

The top specialist I was referred to can’t get me in until next week FML

I have found that working out in the evening has helped me a ton! I usually eat at around 8:00pm, but no carbs and wash it down with a glass of wine or Vodka/Soda.

Fall asleep before 10pm and usually wake up between 4am - 5am to start the day. Did have one day this week that I woke up at 1:30 and didn't go back to bed until 3am, but that was mainly due to my back being sore and not being able to get comfortable.

I'm on week two of no coffee my wife four week's we have a hot green tea when we feel the slump

There’s a bit of caffeine in green tea, but definitely not as much as coffee. I think it’s about 1/3 as much as coffee.
