Three Years ago I was walking across boats at the Cigarette Rendezvous in Lake of the Ozarks.. one normal step and there was a “pop” so loud everyone turned off their stereos to see what it was.. 😳

These are pics of the first month.. and the second post is pics from July.

During that time a lot of people Came by the house to hang out..

Frank the limo driver literally became part of the family and my care taker.. I can’t thank everyone enough for keeping me from getting to depressed..

Especially my wife & Frank and the kids..

For three years now I have lived with this god damn thing. The amount of pain on the daily is up and down from “it hurts a little” to “fuck it I’m gonna cut it off”.

The hardest part is waking up every morning and planning on getting a bunch of shit done.. and realistically only getting 15-20% of what you are capable of.. if you do 25% the. I can’t walk for two days.

Most know not much rattles me. Today I went to the core institute in Phoenix to have them look at what they can do about it.

I’m not kidding sitting in the waiting room I started having an anxiety attack at the thought of “what if they say this is as good as it’s gonna get”

We went the guy said he thinks there is room
For Improvement. We are going to do some
Imaging and come up With a plan for improvement.

The screen is blurry because I Jist about got tears coming out of my eyes from the thought of not having to live like this anymore..

So now we go back to the same place and the same event where we broke it originally.. this time needless to say we are going to be super careful.. lol

I can’t wait to get home And get started on whatever it’s gonna take to fix this thing!!

Shit is looking up!

100 years ago, something like that would kill you. 😁

I broke and dislocated my ankle in 1987. It took 5 years too get back to a normal walk. I never ran again… longer than a 2 second sprint.

What exercise helped me best, is spelling the alphabet with my toe. I still do those stretches almost everyday.

Hey @RiverDave I didn't heal my ligaments right for a year after a very minor snowboarding accident. I was like WTF I did much worse when I was younger and healed faster.

Turns out my body was super deficient in calcium and copper and some other minerals. Do a hair mineral test for $200 and see where you come back, and supplement the stuff you need.. Body can't heal on protein alone! And I think ligaments and bones are similar, I hope this helps like it helped me!

Was it a normal step, or did you roll it / land funky?

crazy stuff that can happen quickly... and from the pics, it looks like it got infected?

Hopefully they can get things moving better for you. Being in constant pain is a miserable feeling.

Sounds like you’re on the correct path for improvement. But remember, it’s likely going to get worse before it gets better. Wishing you luck!

Yeah it was and has been something to live with
I raced motorcycles professionally for many years. I have broken each ankle 4-5 times along with 19 other bones. I am being honest when I say I was like, "dude, its just a fucking ankle, run it!" I didn't know you had a external fixator.....also, what are the growths or bubbles?

They are called fracture blisters.. when you break shit bad your body creates those blisters to help and try protect the area..

You can’t really see it in those x rays.. but when they cut me open to put it back together that ball
On the outside of your ankle was shattered into a bunch of pieces that fell out..

They ground it up into a mush and put it back on there.. that’s why my right ankle is kinda flat on the outside

X rays from Today.. that plate and screws keep going up the side of my leg..

Doctors can tell ya what you are looking at.. but laymens is a lot of arthritis and the ball portion is further back then it should be which is why my foot doesn’t bend very far forwards.

My shoulder has the same plates and screws. They missed one little piece of bone and for a year it moved around until it attached...it would bring me to my knees sometimes it hurt so bad.

In all of my years around people who have broken bones, backs, knees, etc, I have never seen a fracture "bubble". That is wild. Damn dude, external fixators are no joke, along with the pieces they put back together.

I have one friend who destroyed his ankle so bad that one got it amputated. He said it was the best decision he made. I thought that's were you were going!!

CORE saved my ass when I broke my back, the Dr. I saw there was the best. Told me upfront that it was going to be a long road especially if I didn't follow the plan. He was surprised every time I went back for follow up how much I had progressed. Also couldn't believe I didn't take my pain pills, really surprised when I asked him if I could donate them to someone less fortunate. I will be going back to them for my knees, I asked the back Dr. who he would recommend and he hooked me up with one of their knee specialist.

Just follow their plan and you will be better. Quit smoking too, it will really help with the healing process.

You’ve got a lot of stuff going on in that small area. Hopefully they can improve the pain level.

Glad you're doing better. Along with what they recommend...a little bit of exercise, goes along way.

For Gods sake, buy that Schiada back!

I figured shit was bad when you got a hover-round at Legoland.

Medical technology changes quickly, what wasn't possible three years ago is almost routine today. Hope they can get you feeling better. Constant pain sucks donkey dick.

but
your still here, all be it hopping around and tipping over etc & THAT is the important part you’ll get past this F’d time !! Hard to stay positive but you got this!

keep it going

there are a ton of Desert Storms & t shirts to sell, beers to drink, and SPEED cars to RALLY and boating left to do….
not even to say anything on the personal /family side of life.

Was a nurses hair when she was pulling the staples.. she missed one or two, that eventually kinda grew into my leg. I think they eventually got dissolved?
My last major surgery they used dissolving stitches internally and super glue on the outside to close , It looked terrible in the beginning but healed without a keloid, the super glue itched like crazy

I remember those images Dave and seeing them again gives me shivers. I know that it has been a tough journey and I can’t image how it has impacted your life. Good to hear that there is a possibility for improvement. 👍

Have a plate and at least 10 screws in my left ankle from a Jetski accident in 1997. Thank god I was younger and it healed OK. Was told there was a chance I would have to fuse my ankle, but I had an amazing surgeon who put it back together. I have about 90% range and it hurts when i'm on it all day, but so fortunate to be able to use it like normal. I was in a pretty deep depression for close to a year after that, but time heals all wounds!!

Man thats freaky. My girl just broke her ankle in two places the Friday of Memorial Weekend, and of course we were in Havasu and not home. So fun ride to Havasu Hospital, and then she spent the weekend in bed on Norco until we left, and I had to re-org the car to get her in laying down so she could travel. About a week later she had surgery. Two screws in the inner ankle bone, and rather than a plate and screws on the fibula (spiral fractured that), the doc decided to try a rod up the inside of the bone instead. I guess similar stabilization of the bone, but without the outside plate and screws that just piss off the surrounding tissue.

She's got post-op appt next monday where she gets her cast for 4 weeks, then a walking boot for who knows how long.

Really bummed it happened, she's my boating partner and its no fun without her.
