Well our 12 year old 55" Panasonic bit the bullet. Probably going to 65" for replacement.

What's good for around $1K. Don't need the baller deal just want opinions on what's good and what sucks.

Thanks

haha tagging in on this thread.

I have a 10 year old 60" Samsung 1080p thats chugging along, but might be cool to get some of that 4k porn fired up.... I was thinking about a 1500 dollar budget, which seems to be able to get you into the OLED camp, which I think its a big upgrade over some of the normal LEDs (i think at least)

So Video Only has 65" Samsung QLED for $949. What's the deal with QLED? Never heard of it before.

I do hope Samsung TVs are better than their Refridgeraters.

I think its important not to get too hung up on the smarttv portion. Most honestly suck and they dont upgrade them ever. You'll be years ahead going with a small device like a amazon firestick. They are $30 and you can get any app known to man on them, unlike my 3 different smarttv's that none are the same, you can get this app there and not there. Even such a basic app like Spotify you cant get on one of my tv's

Bought a Samsung QLED and returned it an got an LG OLED. I was always a Samsung guy for TV's, but the OLED is much better than the QLED IMO. Not sure on current prices between the two though.

Second this, I have a Samsung I got about 3 years ago. Now I can't even have more than 2 apps loaded in add to the pre loaded stuff, says I'm out of memory. I called Samsung and they said they are aware of it but working on the issues. That was about 5 months ago. Still nothing.

Bought 4 Samsungs in the past 3 months. 2 55”, 1 65” and a 82”. All the TVs are the TU7000D. All were from Costco. The 82” was $1199. 55” $429. Each. Totally happy with all of them

Had the 82”delivered and that was The best thing of all. The rest fit into the Yukon or truck without an issue

We recently purchased a Samsung 55" TU700D 4K UHD from Costco -- $ 499.99 --- lasted one night and we returned it the next morning, not satisfied with the picture quality.
We replaced it with the Samsung 55" Q6 for $ 749.99 and we're very pleased with that one. Costco has the LG OLED for $ 1,199, if you have a relatively dark room and not a lot of rear lighting to cause annoying reflections, I'm sure it's great.
For right at $ 1,000, you've got the Q7 and Q8, if I was making that leap, I'd choose the Q8 for a couple of bucks more.

Hell our Samsung French Door refrigerator has been problem free for 11 years --- we're switching to LG and now, only because we'd rather not wait for the Samsung to drop dead, then be scrambling to replace it. Hope we don't regret getting rid of it. 😬

Fair point I should have mentioned earlier, the Samsung I have was one of their high end models.

Just like everything in this world, you can get a $18,000 car or a $180,000 car. They'll both drive you down the road, but there are some differences.

We also just replaced our 11 year old 65" Samsung with a new 75", the 65" finally shit the bed, but has been perfect otherwise.
For the 75" we didn't feel we'd really use the 8K capability, so opted for the QN90A and are extremely happy with it. We had some backlighting from our kitchen than can cause some irritating reflections, hence why we didn't opt for the LG OLED -- the QN90A does a real nice job of diffusing these reflections and go unnoticed unless they show up in a black area, even then, not a problem.

you made a wise decision. There hardly is any 4k content outside of Bluray discs let alone 8k, and the stuff they say is 4k is often just upscaled 1080p. As far as 8k goes, I read some studies saying the human eye, at normal watching distance (10-15'), can not differentiate 4k vs 8k

After my $2500 Samsung died I figured I see would try a Vizio. This one has been pretty darn good over the last year or so for the price.

I know two things,

#1) OLED is king, and QLED is some cheapass imitation marketing gimmick.
#2 ) Both are way nicer than any of the older technology so you'll be impressed either way

Oh and #3) Is it just me or do you guys missed the curved TVs? they went out of fashion but I love my big curved monitor so much I want a TV like that too.

Ditto, bought a Samsung QLED, sucked. Returned it got another and that one sucked also. No where near the picture on display in the store. Got fed up with them, and got an LG OLED. Can’t beat it, best picture I’ve seen to date.

Bought a Samsung Q6 4K 75" from Costco a while back for like $1,100 (obviously prices keep dropping). Great TV, but out of the box Sammy must set these TVs to Store Display mode or something. Totally blown out picture. Had to google search best setup for the Q6 and the article I found said to change like 5 settings to fix the picture. What a difference, I was going to return the thing if that hadnt made enough difference.

I've watched some 4K content via Apple TV+/Disney + and eh, I cant really tell much of a difference from 1080 quality. Directv has next to no 4K content so nothing really there either to take advantage of. This set doesnt have Dolby Vision but it does have HDR10+ which is close (static vs dynamic for DV). I wouldnt buy DVD/BluRay/UltraBRs now, I have a bunch I never watch.

I'm still not sold on the 4K portion and for our viewing distance I dont think it makes a difference, but 4K is about all you can get now despite the general waste of resolution.

The new 8ks seem so real it feels almost unrealistic to me. Kind of an oxymoron. I truly find it distracting.

I recently purchased several sets. All 4K smart LGs, all at Walmart. The 70 inch units were (if memory serves) $569 and the 55s were just north of $400. No cable, only internet. Vast selection of channels and the picture on all of them is great. Can’t beat the price either.

I just finished this (10 year TV replacement)

I went to BestBuy, and had some young kid, whom was well schooled in Home TV’s, explain the different price points and options.
Then I asked which one works best with Cox Cable, and Amazon Fire Stick.
They had a model on sale for $799 that was a 70”, and looks twice as good as the 20 year old Panasonic 55” we replaced.,

Don’t worry about the picture. Any TV you replace, that’s 8-10 years old, will have an amazing noticeable picture quality.
What you’ll need is s good quality sound bar.

I was told the best use of a curved screen, is when the TV or monitor is placed in s corner.

The $2200 Samsung I bought at Costco Costco few months ago worked for less than 8 hours.

Apparently a common problem with Samsung.

Costco took it back.

Got a Sony and it's been incredible.

We were certainly tempted by the newer Sony lineup. But from I read and was told, the Sony's are demanding of an internet connection, unlike the Samsung which does not. During setup I skipped the internet step and it works perfectly fine and doesn't hound me to connect and I also don't get any ads. I use an Amazon Fire Cube for streaming.

Just got a 65” lg rom Costco last week. 850 bucks. Great picture and it puts out the sounds too.

I was going to get a Samsung but apparently the interface on certain models is clunky and lags.

This is our 5th lg and we haven’t had any problems whatsoever

We bought our 55" LED from Costco, but purchased the 75" QN90 from Best Buy. The reason was, my wife absolutely insisted she was NOT going to participate in the removal the large and very heavy 11 year old dead Samsung and hang a new even larger LED --- foot down, no argument, " I'm paying for it, so order it " --- OK Dear.
Wasn't sure about using Costco for Del and Install, but new the Geek Squad at BB could easily handle it. And they did, couldn't have been more pleased.

Anybody used Costco for delivery and install ? I know at one time they'd give you a phone number, but I think now with all the Costco.Com, they may offer it ??

Currently awaiting the 2nd delivery of a new very large LG refrigerator from Costco.Com. They showed up early last Saturday and had us scrambling, but when they removed the cardboard it looked like somebody had taken a hammer to the lower drawer and I instructed them to just load it right back on the truck. 😖
The way these things are boxed, it's hard for me to imagine how these things get so beat up. Just glad our old frig is still working, otherwise we'd have spent two weeks living out of ice chests. The reason we bought now was due to rapidly dwindling supply.

Is the LG insistent about having an internet connection ? Not sure what you're referring to by "Interface", you mean online or connected to let's say a Direct tv genie etc ?

I meant the operating system that comes with the Samsung tv. That interface is buggy and lags on certain new models from what I’ve read.

the lg I got is the un9000 model. Doesn’t require internet, but had a lot of cool features if it is hooked up.

Certainly haven't noticed anything buggy or lagging, but then I'm not using it in an internet connected environment, so it's basically used as a monitor for Direct tv, Cube or Blu-Ray players.

I like LG products, so good to hear they don't pester you for connection to the net.

That's interesting, because I much prefer my older Samsung remote over the new one and having to scroll all over the home page to direct change. Also since we tend to just use the 75" as a large monitor, I use the Direct Tv remote or Fire Cube remotes mostly. Damn, maybe I should have bought a LG 🥴 😁

Great timing to see this thread.

Against the grain of most I asked we bought a Samsung Plasma back some 12 years ago from Costco. I was told that was a 5yr TV and get the warranty as the bulb will burn out. Up until now never a problem and its on 5-7 hrs a day. We liked the picture and still do but as of a week or so ago we now have a thin black line right across the middle of the screen. Its a 52" that looks like a 65 because of the black frame. It will be nice to kick off the 150kwh a month that thing burns for something 10% of that.

The largest I can fit is a 70" without overhanging my credenza and interfering with my Polk towers. So the shopping begins.

Have had great luck with Samsungs....

Bought a Samsung 46" about 12 years ago and upgraded to 65" (which cost less than the one 12 years ago) about a year ago and zero issues

Screen burn-in at 5 months LG QLED $2600.
COSTCO employees say it’s common.

COSTCO warranty we bought extra cost only gave us about $800 toward a new TV.

New Samsung TV boxes say “no screen burn-in TV” in huge block letters on the side.

If ya go with LG roll with the cheapest.
Our cheap-O LG big screens in the TH have been excellent and they take a beating. Wife runs them 24/7 in her sleep-a-thons.

My Sammy 51” plasma is over 10 years old and has never had a single problem, was like $650 way back then. If I’m at home the tv is on, even if I’m not watching it. Massive hours on that thing. I just moved it to the master bedroom.
my 41” Samsung LED is probably that old as well, it’s in the guest room and kicks ass.
The little 30 something Samsung on the shelf was bought for my old 5th wheel in 2007 from Walmart for like $150 and still works perfectly.

I just got the 65” Walmart Visio M series Quantum.
I wanted the Samsung Chrystal HD 8000, but they were out and I had to hang one that day because my surgery was pending.
The Visio was $650. It’s OK, the remote is simple, the pic is ok, and the smart tv stuff is simple to work and the device pairing is flawless.
No more switching sources to see phone content or any apps, it’s all just one click.
BUT...I do think the Samsung Chrystal is a better pic and will replace this Visio as soon as I’m back to work.

We like the new line of reasonable priced SONYS at Costco.

But the RDP brain trust mentioned too much of the chips brainpower is wasted on superfluous multi purpose nonsense.

Our Visios were like cheap car wax. Start to yellow with time.

Huge bummer, but --- If the LG OLED (Which are known for burn in) suffered burn in, is this not covered by LG's own warranty, or is burn in excluded as being the owner's fault ?
Normally the Costco warranty won't kick in until after the manufacturers, or that's what I thought I'd read.

I notice a Directv box under it, since our Directv DVR won't cause burn in, due to it's constantly changing picture(s) ( Now a nice ad for AT&T instead of the old bouncing ball), nor will our Cube as it's always changing as well. I'm guessing you were using a different source that doesn't mitigate burn in.

LEDs or QLEDs (Samsung) aren't known for suffering burn in, never tested it however.

From what I've been told and read, because LG focused on OLED development, they're a bit behind the LED TV technology compared to Samsung, Sony and Visio.

You might need a new space heater now too after replacing that plasma. They were notorious for putting off lots of heat.

I thought you'd purchased a new Samsung last year, or maybe you were going to and didn't ??

LG sent technicians to the house and it was ridiculous. Screen burn remained and further problems developed.

They sweated me out and won. I tapped out and went in to replace the TV thinking it was 100% covered.

I defaulted to the $800 credit toward and bought
the Samsung the employees said was their most reliable.

We hated the ambient mode (it defaults to it for no reason) on the Samsung and evidently they dropped it entirely on their new sets.

A message appeared on the screen recently stating Samsung no longer supports the Ambient mode and the problem went away.

Otherwise a good set.

I was going to but didn't.
Just couldn’t peel off the $ for the Q series, and wanted a Q7 minimum.
Ive decided that I just won’t pay more than a grand for a tv anymore.
It’s not as important to me to have that perfect picture anymore. Getting older I guess? Lol
Kind of why I didn’t mind trying this Visio.
But my honest opinion is that in the sub $1000 market the 65” Sam UHD 8 series is the no brainer go to choice.
I did see that in the 55” size much better deals are to be had. But my whole purpose in replacing the 51” was to go bigger

I bought the 82" as well. Sweet TV
