I've gone to the VA & lots of hearing specialists over the years & they couldn't help me but lately I've been hearing (no pun intended) some good things with the newer hearing aids from my buddies from the military that have the same thing. My wife is hounding me to go back & see what they can do since she's tired of me not hearing her, but sometimes that's not a bad thing (most of the time actually).
The VA just this week sent my 99 year old dad to COSTCO for hearing aids.
"The first time in 20 years I've heard road noise riding in the car".
The VA has got way better with Trump.

Lipo-flavonoids - This is supposed to help. For me...nope.

I live with this and its harsh. Did extensive Dr. testing, end result hearing loss. This sound is generally caused by your brain and not your ears specifically. Your brain making up for the damage placing that buzz in place. I'm not wearing a hearing aid just yet but I can tell my family is getting a little tired of me tilting my head to hear what they are saying.

The buzzing at times is a complete bitch. Not being able to hear people talk clearly in say like a bar or some place with loud AC or fans running is another issue.

Not being able to hear "some" people talk......FUCKIN blessing.

Tinnitus is listed as a potential side effects of NSAIDs and Acetaminophen. IF you are on any meds, you should consult your doctor to see if tinnitus is a side effect.

^You have nailed tinnitus.^ Keep aspirin to a minimum. If Cardiologist wants you on aspirin stick to the 81 Baby dose.
For sure no cure tinnitus, those of us who live with it have only ourselves to blame for the hell of tinnitus.Something we did or exposed ourselves to over the years caused it.Mental exercise to ignore tinnitus is the only relief. Check that out. Watch out for scams. You can learn to ignore on your own
The box fan suggested for sleep really the best for relief.

This is the avenue of research that I find most interesting. Mine just started this year (as far as I’ve noticed) and my hearing doesn’t really seem any worse as far as I can tell. I’ll be getting a hearing test (policy) when I start working again.
But the brain inflammation angle seems more source oriented than all the symptomatic treatments that frankly seem hit or miss.

Ahhhh yes. 2,000 plus hours in the C-130 have my hearing completely shot. And I’m only half way. Unfortunately I don’t have an answer to the problem. Ten more years until I can even think about starting that push with the VA. Good luck to you sir.

I was around helicopters the entire time I was in the Army. My hearing loss / tinnitus was actually accepted by the VA fairly easily (compared to their usual process). The environment you work in should make your claim a slam dunk. It's only 10% though, so nothing earth shattering.

Yup, got a mild case of it here..... Too many motors, guns, steel shop, etc as a kid. The ringing is not all that bad for me, its more of just a low constant companion. The real issue is sound differentiation. I have reasonable hearing when its quiet like a hearing test. add some background noise into the mix and I am the guy trying to read lips.....

Sorry brother!
No worries,

I am the stereotypical kid who was being told by his Grandfather that stereo, that open header boat and all the other stuff is going to come calling someday.....Wish I had listened.

The 2 things that really stand out as to what I remember getting my attention when I was younger were mixing sound for a garage band and concerts, 3 day weekends in one of my old flats with open headers or zoomies and a whining V-Drive gear box.....I think those 2 things probably did the most damage.

The worst part is waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and crawling back in bed and not being able to fall right back to sleep, that sound messes with my head pretty good.

i def have it, its more of a muffled sensation for me though and i do have hearing loss of certain frequencies. places with background noise i cant hear most people unless they are talking loud enough to overpower the background noise.

Mines in between 1-2 more or less.
7500 is so close, I almost can't hear it. Only way I know the speaker is turned up is because the people around me ask WTF is that? (I've played it at work for people that didn't know what tinnitus was)

Yes and it sucks but there are things that you can do. Mine happened because some asshat shot a a 357mag 3 inch barrel next to me before I had my earpro on 6 years ago. Mine is a high frequency sound that never goes away but I have been able to reduce it a lot. I use tinnitus sound therapy and that helps huge. You can go on youtube and find them. You have to use in ear headphones for it to work correctly. Also, you will have to listen to a crap ton of them to find the right one for your frequency. I finally found one about 3 months after it happened and it was like someone massaging my inner ear, the relief was amazing. It has calmed it down significantly but I still have it, not sure it will ever go away. When it's very quiet I can hear it so I have to have a little noise. I have to have a little noise to go to sleep. Good luck with it, it does suck though.
I just downloaded an app from Beltone called Calmer. Played with it for a few minutes. It pretty much does what I do with music. The wife complains when I sleep with earbuds in, says I'm tuning her out. I told her I'm tuning out the voices in my head.

I more so meant I have to wait to retire so they don’t force discharge me. But that’s good knowing it shouldn’t be too difficult when trying to claim some disability!

Thank you for your service to our nation and families.
Yes. Technology has made HUGE gains the past 3-5 years. I’m on my 3rd one, been 7 years since I started. Check it out. You can always pass on it.

Okay, kind of freaks me out that I cannot hear number 2 at all, not in the slightest. My wife's like turn that off it's annoying & I'm like whaaaat. I guess mine is that to a tee.

Yes it sucks, I have had it for over 25 years (51 years old now) and now have no hearing in my left ear. Only thing I hear is a scream that only gets louder 24/7. Worse when quiet for sure. Mine is caused by Meniers. It is awesome to be off balance and ringing in your ear at the same time. It is a party let me tell you.
Tinnitus is not curable for someone like me. It may be temporary for some of you.

When Its quiet and mine starts poking its head out, I put pressure by clamping down on my back teeth and the sound drops a level and changes.
It’s comforting knowing I’m not the only one.

I have gotten used to it over the years so it doesn’t bother me much. But my hearing is getting worse the last couple of years to the point I almost need to read lips. My kids tell me my favorite word is what.
Another thing I notice with mine is it seems like the worse it gets I’m more susceptible to motion sickness. Multiple Dr.’s have told me no correlation but I am not buying it. Growing up and even into my late 40’s I never had a problem. But as my tinnitus has gotten worse I find my self getting sea sick and even have problems in the dunes in my sand car.

When I retired from the Marines I had a thorough VA exam. Shockingly I was told I have no hearing loss (they adjust the numbers for age, LOL), but I do have tinnitus. I can't remember when it started but it is constant. I'm always with a radio, tv or fan on for the background noise. As others have stated it's worse when it's quiet.

The yearly FBI hearing tests are always a treat , er, guessing game in the cone of silence lol!

Have had it for many years. Comes and goes, higher blood pressure seems to bring it back or just random for what seems like no reason. I've learned to just ignore it
Mine comes and goes , better over the past years , taking 3 BP meds and other Vitamin regiment since My "life flight" ... also supidly never cared for hearing protection (44 Mag rounds) creeping Old age , I use CC to watch TV or I drive my wife nuts ;)

Huh, what did you say??

24/7... Only way I sleep at night is melatonin or benadryl. Lately edible THC makes me keep like a rock!

I know my wife is my soulmate because she hasn't left me yet due to repeating herself a billion times in our 23 years
