So, I know there’s inmates that have already done what I want to do - learn me! 2016 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab 4 WD, new Bilsteins 5100’s on the back, new Bilsteins 5100 adjustables on the front, with the 1.8” lift, so it’s level now. Need tiers, have factory 275/55/20’s Goodyear GSA on it. I NEVER go off road, want quiet road tires, but am thinking of going +1 figment. Should I - what’s the good and bad? What size/brand? Got 80,000 miles out of the first 2 sets of GSA’s, mostly freeway - tow a Nordic Rage, about 6,000 #’s. I don’t want to mess it up, but not sure what to do - HELP!!!

80K on tires is good. I got close to 70k on my BFG At's but that with a rotation every 10k. Didn't really get road noise until they were close to the end of their life... or I just couldn't hear them over the Diesel 😂

I’ve had shit luck with BFGs...hankook AT-Ms on everything I own now and they’ve been great...quiet, great wear, great traction...zero complains.

I have Toyo M/T on my Jeep that I flat tow. They are getting noisy now. 40 thousand miles. Maybe 10 just driving. Cupping May be inherent to flat towing or I just need to rotate them more often

Cupping is inherent to Jeep steering...as the suspension cycles, toe changes drastically. This doesn’t cause issues from the drivers seat, but it does cause strange tire wear. Rotate them more often.

You could go up to a 275/60r20 and it would be 1” bigger. Where are you located? Happy to help go over some options.

If you go with a non-M/T you'll have less noise. The Toyo A/T is a quiet tire with great on and off road performance

I will say you are the only person I know that got 70k miles out of a BFG tire in the last 5 years I have been in the biz.

no kidding! Most people are 30k or so. I just had a guy come in with a Gen 2 Raptor and he got 50k, which was the best I’ve seen.

I have a customer who changes out their KO2’s every 20k no matter what. And won’t change brands either...

Got 35,000 on my wife’s 2015 4Runner with 265/70R17 KO2s. They look almost new still. Rotate every 5,000.

Guess I'm lucky. Got about 55k out of my Toyo's. Had a cheap nock off between those, now back to the BFG AT's.

Normal C rated not E rated. Not DT either.

Interesting. That’s great wear. We still sell a lot of them, but we give our customers a heads up about wear issues. I hope Michelin/BFG has gotten it figured out.

@RVRKID set these up. Not sure of the exact mileage last time around but it was over 40k before the sound became unbearable. Love the ride enough that i went back for a second round.
These are 275/65/R20 On a Silverado with a leveling kit.

We just went from kumho adventure mt’s, which sucked, to Nitto Ridge Grapplers. So far so good on 2013 lifted Duramax. Just been a week but one Havasu trip and one local lake trip.

We sell quite a few of these with great results. Keep up with the rotations and you’ll probably extend the life on the second set. We just put these exact size tires on a 2017 Denali dually.

Another really good tire! The guys at Nitto say these are slowly becoming more popular than the G2’s. They tend to be quieter and last longer.

No doubt. It’s was all me on the last set. I put it off too long.

I run toyo R/T, on the 2500 there about a 50k mile tire. On my f150 and the 2500 the toyo A/T went 70k-80k. The R/T’s look better and perform a little better offroad. On an older 2500 i use to run bfg’s and got crap life out of them.

R/T performs better Offroad than A/T?! Are you sure you got that right?

This is interesting
https://www.customwheeloffset.com/blogs/200/top-5-best-hybrid-truck-tires-for-2019

Yes sir. Rt is rough terrain and at is all terrain. Ive had both in the toyo and for a fact the rt is better offroad and in the snow. Not sure about the tires on that list but the number one tire on it is a R/T and the A/T tires on there have aggressive tread for an A/T.

My Goodyear trailrunner ATs that came on my truck are amazingly quiet and seem to be wearing exceptionally well. Have almost 14,000 miles on them and rotate every 7,500 miles.

My experience with tires is that Cooper is the best tire for the money. I have run Cooper Discoverer AT3 on both of my vehicles. On the 4Runner they are P265/65-17 and I get the 50k on them. On the Sequoia it came with P275/55-20 and I would burn them off in less than 25k. I upsized to LT285/55-20. The 10 ply tires perform much better and I have gotten 60K on each of two sets.

I have owned dozens and dozens of BFG all terrains on all types of vehicles. I have found that the lighter weight vehicles do really well. The heavier rigs, even with the appropriate weight rating, absolutely eat them up quickly.

I happen to be a huge fan of toyos, except their car tires. Just put RTs on the big truck yesterday.

By +1, you mean increase in size, correct? What would you like to know? Tire wear, speed difference, handling difference, fuel mileage difference?

I did this on an f-150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. Leveling kit with 33” tires. It tanked the mpg down to about 12mpg because the truck had freeway gears. Re geared the truck to 3:73’s and bought a tuner, that got it up to about 17mpg as well with the tuner I was able to correct the odometer. Going up 1 size wont do to much and they sell programers that just correct the mph. My experience the truck rode better, tracked better and held the road better. Also no alignment issues, i got 80k miles out of a set of toyo A/T’s on that truck.

Its always about the combo. Most people choose tires by the look/size. They don't realize any of the side effects of those 97lb Toyo M/T's.

I’d would add that folks running MT’s generally run waaaay too much psi as well.

These are load range E tires. An empty truck only needs 35 psi according to the load inflation tables, and this is still going to give a half-ton truck 2,000 lbs in excess cargo capacity on the rear axle.

Got that right! When I put the lift on my 2500 I went with 35's, two lift shops told me I wouldnt need to re gear and it wouldnt effect the mpg more then 1-2mpg, they were full of shit.

I've been happy with Cooper tires on our Suburban. Nothing fancy but they seem to wear well and ride well. Several trips from L.A. to the river and back, and the tires seem to be the least of my worries. 😁

I "had" cupping and issues with 2006 4 wheel drive chevy, AT tires, about 30K. New shocks, ball joints fixed all issues. Had to dump the AT tires. I bought the least expensive tire I could find, LingLongs. It is a joke with a friend of mine, but I am actually very happy with them. After buying, I looked them up and they are heavily used in the commercial fleets, because of price. I also more than likely to replace because of age as oppose to wear going forward.

We put 37" Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my '20 Sierra 2500 in March. Super quiet and I'm pleased so far...
