I was able to come up with a quote of 48 total 32's made across the years, but other than that, the internet is sucking for this kind of data.

Looking for total run production numbers for all Spectra boats built....

Any data would be appreciated greatly :D

I am guessing that the 20 was the most popular, would lead me to believe that they had the most built.

Somewhere around 1000 I would guess. Mine is #943 built Sept 79, going roughly by examples of HIN numbers I would guess approx. 100 20's a year? From 71 to 81?

Probably that many 24's as well, both XL and XS?

You got any idea of the actual production Brent?

We could just grassroots this as well, if you own a Spectra, post up what number and size it is in this thread, we'll be able to determine pretty close what the runs where once we get enough data.

Thanking all you Spectra owners in advance, if anything it will actually show us how collectable these boats actually are. And not just because they are the sexy :D

Found 20'#004 built 71. Owner so far will not give up full HIN to narrow down date, but at least it's more data.

78SW's 20' #365 Built in Jan 75

CC's is 20'#451 Built April 75

Mine is 20'#943 built Sept 79

Mine is a 20' #365 Built in August 75 ...The decoder says August but I am thinking January.

By the way what is the M for? Marine?

M meant "Model Year", and was an option to use this numbering/lettering, 2 different codes could be used back then. Builders choice. This all changed in 1984 to another set of rules.

So Monstrous's 32 was given the hull serial number 32107 and built in January of '78.

So how do you figure out the month? The decoder said August for mine but the HIN ended with an A so I figured A would equal January.

EDIT
I just looked at the other thread "A" is for August. So my 20' is #365 August of 75.

So I am guessing there were around 1000 20's built, can we get some members with 18's and 19's and 24' CC and 24XS to chime in with the dates and hull#'s?

A lifelong family friend had the last Spectra made(according to him at least). It was a 24XS and him his best friend bought a pair, one was blue and one was yellow, they had to get two or they wouldn't build one as they were going out of business. They were bought as a shell and went to Rex Marine for rigging. I took this picture for some reason I don't remember

Whenever you get a chance, just gathering data so we can make some decent assumptions about total production for each model.

It'd a 32. 120m79a. So if I'm reading this right, number 20. August 79.

I have a 1971 Spectra 24 which only has 3 numbers #101 for the hull ID. We have owned it since 1976 . It had a wooden trailer when we got it. The color was baby blue with white window stripe. The boat was set up for offshore fishing. Had a live bait well and outriggers. Has a 427 Chevrolet with a mercruiser III outdrive. We took it deep sea fishing for many years to the Channel islands.

That’s an early spectra 24. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an out drive one from the early seventies before. Nice looking.

Mine is a 79 32". I don't have the other numbers the boat is stored at our lake house. I was told by the original owner who I bought it from it was a show boat for spectra. My brother-in-law also has a 32 it's a 78.

spectra32bob,
Would be cool to get the numbers from the boats. Could have some consecutive production survivors? (mine & 3279 are 119&120)
In fact I'm curious how many of the original 32's are still around?

Word is they only built 48 of the 32's. No rush bob, whenever you can get to it throw it up here, someday soon I'll organize this post again to reflect some build estimations.

There are at least 6 32's that I can think of that post here, as well as the one off custom "Spectacular" 32 that was modified to be an "XS". Really cool. Link to pics in this post here of the "32 XS" : https://www.riverdavesplace.com/forums/threads/spectra-32.20985/

I need more input on the 18's and 19's, those I have very few details on.

Racey has the 32 mold, not Hallett.

The other Spectra molds went to the following boat company's:

Spectra 18 went to Southwind before Spectra went out of business
Spectra 19 went to Gilbreath ( GMT)
Spectra 20 went to Miller
Spectra 24 went to Sanger
Spectra 32 went to Racey

Then at some point Shane acquired it from Hallett.

Steve Stenton, Shane's dad acquired the molds directly from Spectra when they went out of business in '80/81.
I recall Racey posting that the mold has never left Boulder City, NV and his dad only built 4 32s.

Hallett, I believe first offered their 32 in 1987. So they either:
a) Found another 32' spectra mold that no one knew about (not likely),
b) Built their mold from scratch via plans from Bud Bailey (possible), or
c) Splashed and existing 32 (more then likely).

SPE19122M75K

Before and after buffing out pics? WOW it came back super nice! I have not seen your boat around on this site, but maybe others have, it does have a pretty unique gel!

SPE (MIC-Manufacturer Identification Code- issued by the Coast Guard-Spectra Marine Manufacturer) 19 (size) 122 (boat # 122) M75K (built June 1975).

EARLY HIN TYPES, November 1, 1972 through July 30, 1984

The manufacturer had the option of giving either the model year or date of manufacture. As with cars, a model year can be several months different from the date of manufacture.

A. Straight date HIN: Example: ABC123451272 (December, 1972)
The 9th and 10th characters give the month and the 11th and 12th characters denote the year of manufacture.

B. Model Year HIN: Example: ABC12345M67J (May, 1967)
The 9th digit is an "M", which stands for model year.
The 10th and 11th characters are numeric and denote the model year.
The 12th and final digit gives the month of manufacture using letters of the alphabet.

Because some months have the same beginning letters (March and May, January, June and July) it is understandable that one can't use the first letter of each month, so inventors of the system decided to use letters of the alphabet consecutively (A through L). Here comes the stupid part! "A" stands for August, but not because the month's name begins with an "A". The government officials simply decided to start lettering months with August and end with July! In order to figure out your HIN you may need to check the following chart:

A=August, B=September, C=October, D=November, E=December,

F=January, G=February, H=March, I=April, J=May, K=June, L=July

Cool to know. Thanks for the info. Ya i dont post here to much. Mostly on SCJB. Ive had it for little over a year now and its been sitting. Finally got around to working on it over the 4th. the gel was already sanded through in some spot so i just decided to buff it out and see what happens. Looks like its been redone once already as i can see factory gel scheme coming through in some spots. Turned out pretty good i think. It adds character, lol. Ill have to start a build thread for it.

Hey NAFlash! How did your 20 end up coming out with the 502? Did you ever get it all sorted out?

Hey there, boat runs good, I have taken out a few times now this season. Found a broken connector on the #7 injector and decided to replace all 8 injectors last year. It feels alot better and on GPS it runs 75mph with 24p. I need to upgrade the interior and do some other work to the boat but overall its been a very solid reliable boat.

NAFLASH,

Your Spectra looks great! The interior looks like Spectra/ARKO did it in the early 1970's.

Did you cap it?

Hey Brent,

Thanks! I got the interior used and it too came out of a Spectra 20. I did cap it however I'm thinking about putting a stainless rub rail on, I'm still on the fence about it.

If the 20 went to Miller - How did Howard end up with the molds? Thanks
