Dont want to get into details but sprinklers and fire dept took care of it. Water down carb, all wiring fried, carpet approx 1/2 way into cabin destroyed with burns and everything under hatch gone.

that looks pretty crispy. i redid a warlock that had fire damage and the gelcoat wasnt anywhere near that bubbled/cracked. The big thing is that the resin in the fiberglass burns, not the glass fibers itself. So along those sides you'll have to cut/grind all that out... also when boats are built they're laminated in such a way/schedule with layers so that they're able to twist and such... basically once repaired you'll have a giant "hard spot" repair. I'd say thats totaled.

The majority of my damage was a single layer of fiberglass, the rest inside was still good. So I did a single layer of some mat all the way down the side and up inside the gunwale. ground out the upper transom area and rebuilt it. so far so good, no cracks or anything. if i ever sold it who knows what I would get as it'll always be a fire boat and I'd never hide it.

Damn! Was that in a storage unit? Was it on a battery tender? Or charger unattended? I always worry about leaving my boat plugged into the onboard charger in the garage when I’m gone.

I wouldn’t even try to fix it
My exact thought.
A: would you really want your family and or friends at risk? As well the resale value is nil and chance of a suit if sold without informing buyer.

I’m amazed at some of the item that insurance allows to be bought back myself. I’d have to see to it the hull at least wasn’t reused but i worry about stuff like that.

I don't think boats get a salvage title.

Wow this sucks. Wish had details how it started. I have mine in storage with battery c-tech. I only have the wires from the charger in the boat. The unit sits on the ground. I also have the hatch open. I am always thinking that I hope it never catches fire. The money I have in my boat would be a big loss if this happened to me.

Was not caused by battery tender.
Backfire occurred while trying to get it started and caught hatch on fire. While panicing looking for my extinguisher under a seat some of the carpet on hatch dripped onto life jackets and thats when all hell broke loose. My extinguisher would not put them out. They were like glue on fire. We have some blisters and singed hairs but we will recover. In the end I shouldnt have been in there for so long trying to get it out. My buddy said he couldnt even see me in the boat through all the smoke.
My buddy and I towed it home and were saying, what the f@uck just happened. Im still in disbelief how out of control this got so fast.
Please have your fire extinguishers readily available like I didnt.

Holy hell Batman. Glad you made it out safely. Were those neoprene or like old school vinyl life jackets?

But that’s something to really think about....if there’s a fire onboard and everyone suits up in a life jacket. 😲

Just jump in the water if your life vest catches on fire.

Glad to see your ok. It sounds like it could have been much worse in just a few seconds. as for the boat. I guess it all depends on how much work you would want to do.... but that boat would take months to get repaired if you were to buy it back and tackle it yourself. The summer would be long gone. So may be best to let it go.... collect an insurance check and look for another.

I'm no gel expert but I don't think that's unfixable. I've seen worse fixed for sure depending on how bad the port side is (looks like the port side got the most damage). If I were you I'd do an insurance claim, let them total it out and buy it back from them. Then rip interior, carpet, motor, etc out and take it to mikes @Hammer guy and have him get busy on the fiberglass and gel repair. Strip that engine down, rebuild bigger better. New interior, new seadeck and a new motor. Run it.

Take a putty knife and scrape the blistered area. If all your getting is Gel/paint then it's pretty repairable. If fiberglass starts coming off with it then it's pretty questionable and may be time to retire it.

Life jacket are that flammable ?? I would have never thought. But then, they are pretty much nylon with a foam inserts (unless they are neoprene) Lesson learned!!
