Will be heading up the hill pulling my toybox. I can take either the 330 or the 38. Which route do you guys like better?

I think 38 is a better road for towing. The 330 has more passing lanes than the 38 but some of the curves near the top are sharper. Also more people use the 330.

330 is the most direct and safest imo. Cell service is best on the 330 also. If i have.to tow somethin up or down the mtn i use the 330 first 18 across ridgeline from waterman (long way) then only if.nessecary ill use the 38.

Just did that drive last weekend. Drove the 330 up and the 38 back. I think I like the 330 better than the 38.

I live in the Apple Valley area and don't like towing anything big up the 18. I have taken my motorhome up it without a trailer (33') and it feels like the front and back bumper are going to touch each other. If I tow my 30 toybox up there I like the 38 unless I'm headed to Cactus Flats.

this ^^^

Yes it will take longer, but it will be a whole lot safer and easier on you. No way I'd tow the other way.

Some conflicting opinions...but I gotta think the guy who tows large, broken-down shit for a living would have the right answer :thumbsup

Another consideration is where you are towing to. 330 takes you to the 18 which puts you at the "dam" side of the lake. 38 takes you to the far side of town on the opposite side of the lake from the dam.

38 takes you over Onyx Summit which is about 8500'. Taking 330/18 will peak at 7200-ish.

None of the routes up/down the hill are any fun when towing something beyond the tow rigs capability. My advice would be to choose the most efficient route based upon the destination.

Aloha
