Looking for any info or suggestions of items to look out for in this generation of product from forest river.
Its a 2007 sandpiper/sierra sport f40spts just looking for some thoughts on this era of trailer.
Pretty sure this was at the super production low quality time before the market crash back then.

Like issues to look out for when i see this trailer. Such as wall sags or common cracking areas if any or delaminating issues, king pin frame crossmember cracking or bad weld spots, underated axle, missing bracing etc.

Remember a friend growing up had i think a 2006 gearbox 5iver that had the crossmember bend/ flexing at the king pin.

I have a couple pictures and the layout so far, only issue he told me was one slide out was having trouble going all the way out. Stops about halfway. Other then that so far so good until i see it in person.
Grown up in multiple rvs and trailers and restored in another thread an older 24’ bumper tow toy hauler awhile back so i mostly know how to work on and fix most small common issues.

Any info would help from my RDP family, mainly since i was like 15-16 during this era and wasnt paying attention to details like owning toys besides my dirt bike.

40ft??? 😳

First thing you should look at is Where you will be using this trailer. Most campgrounds have a limit, and it's almost always less than 40ft.

If you're just doing open dry camping, you're good.

You also need to consider what you are going to be towing it with. Thats going to be close to 20k loaded up, but more important than the weight with a 5th wheel is the pin weight, it going to be waaaay over the max payload of a 2500 if thats what you have. Trailer like that needs a one ton truck.

I actually really like the older units. Frame is always an issue with toyhaulers look at axle sizes, spring rates, and all the welds around the pin box.

Thank you boys!
Ya its 39 foot overall according to dudes tape measure and we do big river for 6 months and then ocotillo wells private property off split mountain the other 6 months. Never the beach or long travel with it.

Sticker spec on side of trailer and according to some online sheets i found it says 12500 uvw and 16750 gvw which i think is off like the old weekend warriors were haha.

The trailer hasnt been moved or used in two years since they had a personal injury. Never had a problem before. He went to move it and test things and he said that one slowly moved (after the other two opened) and it stopped halfway. He says it a hydraulic system.

Nice just found out it has 2 panels and and outback inverter charging system he had done a few years ago.

Tow pig is a 3500 single wheel duramax. My avatar needs to be updated from my old 2500.

Only thing i dont think i like is he has a gooseneck adapter on the king pin for his bw flip hitch on his ford.

Get your truck on a scale and see if has the left over capacity to to that much.

But...

If you're only going to move it twice a year? You'll probably be good using some common sense. 👍🏼

Definitely want to do this anyways but figure I was fine! Its a 22’ at4 which i wanna say was like 22k pounds on 5th wheel. Definitely Not moving it much. Ocotillo is a slow 1hr 15 min drive ish. Big river is mostly freeway until indio grade then smooth roll again

I would be worried about that slide. If something is bent that is preventing it from coming all the way out it could cost big money to fix.
I was thinking the same and last i want to do is get the whole slide taken out to find twisted metal and bad rollers etc etc. so far without seeing it and haggling much with the guy we are in the 13k range for it. He posted it over a year ago for 25k he said he stopped trying to sell it because he was dealing with Physical therapy and family etc.

Your truck will handle that no problem.

When he tested the slide was it plugged in? Or just batteries. Could just need batteries charged or new batteries since it sat for 2 years. Especially if it was the 3rd slide he tried.

Check the roof and the front cap for soft spots. Ask if he has ever resealed the roof.

Thanks.. ya he said resealed 3 years ago. He has owned it for 10 years.
I was thinking the same thing as well and he was just using the batts for power, but i kinda dont want to hint at possible fixes until i look at it ha trying to keep some barter chips.
Definitely needs tires 🤦🏽‍♂️.

Good news is the slides go in all smooth and easy so it can be towed vs trying to manually open the solenoids and get them moved in manually to tow it home.

I was thinking the same. That slide might cost 2500 to fix hint hint.. or just batteries which you would probably need either way.

Hope it works out in your favor. That's a lot of trailer for 13k. A little interior remodeling and can look as good as a new 85K model.
