The Peterson museum has put over 500,000 pictures from their archive's online, and adding to it all the time, and I did a simple search for 'boat' and came up with 85 pages of pictures, over 4,000 images, from 1959 on. Long Beach, Hanford, drags, circles races everything you can imagine. It's really amazing and for a boat history whore like me, it's awesome. Almost all images have an annoying water mark on them but that's ok. I spent over an hour last night and only got through 17 pages.

This link will take you to the 'boat' search I did...

Just a few pics, starting off with Rudy...

Wow, thanks for the heads up
I used to be loosely associated with them, did some cars for them, and knew some of the principles. always wanted to hit them up to do a hot boat vintage display. Throw in some go karts and mini bikes to round it out.

I jumped ahead to the last page, Long Beach drags 1958. I was 2 but probably not there.

    Great pics.

What was the boat in the Elvis movie “clambake”. I weathered through that movie the other day.

The one pic with the 68 boat and the 11 look to be the boat Wayne Herberts Dad used to drive. It was Bristol hull with a big caddy...the 11 boat is a Belmont. Those deep strut angles back then put them up in the air...very cool shots..

I kinda figured you’d be able to ID 90% of all the boats on that site. You should check out the pics from the Hanford races...you’re probably in some of them.

I seriously grew up in the wrong era. :( I should have been a child in the 50s and driving in the 60s. Life was rad then!

I like all the pics, they are awesome but this one stood out to me. Look at the driver in the closest (number 68) boat looking over like WTF, I going to get my ass handed to me. LOL

Couple hundred Salton Sea pics in there too...1962.

The pics of the drums used for fuel reminds me of the boat we built at Advantage to race the Mississippi River race back in the late 80s, 500 miles a day up the river over 2 days. We used a acetone drum for extra fuel, lol, looked like shit. By the way we broke the first year, won it the 2nd.

Salton Sea 500, Mickey Thompson, in stripped shirt, and Rudy again. fuckina.

I think the 2 guys with flattops are the Chrisman brothers, I know the one on the right is Art Chrisman. The other his brother?

And I'm almost 100% that the guy running the timing station is Otto Crocker who was famous for his timing lights on the dry lakes and Bonneville.

I got to go to one Salton 500 but I don't think it was this one, I think it was in '65, but my most vivid memory is of the fueling station like in the shot below.

Yep that would be Jack. After his near fatal accident he gave me all the light weight body panels, plexiglass and aluminum bumpers from his AF/X Comet to use on my race car.

And of course Rudy had his boats on display, I'm liking that hardtop, but that 144 ci Falcon 6 must of been a dog.

I gotta stop looking at these pics.

Recently dumped my aunt's ashes in the Salton Sea. Standing on the shoreline it was hard to believe it was once a boating destination. Very cool pics!

My Dad raced Hanford in his Bristol...I'll have to look. One of the worst car crashes I ever saw was leaving Hanford after a race...Studebaker Lark that FLEW into a field and rolled probably five times...gruesome..

Love old B&W photographs of any kind. No colour pic would show the lines of a curvy boat like these B&W ones. Ansel Adam pictures are proof, B&W photos show more details than colour. Thanks for posting the pics OR.:)

I was watching a Taco frijole on eBay and I’ll be damned if I forgot to bid yesterday before it ended. No one else bid either so maybe it’ll go back up. The seller is local too. It’s for my grandson, he just turned 2 so I figure I’ll have time to restore it for him.
I never had a Taco but most of my friends did.
