Looks like they had to modify the transom to fit the drive. With the way the Tuff's like to get up on the pad I imagine that was a hell of a ride at 124. Can't wait to see the video of it running.

Here's a 28 with twin 300xs I love how these things sit on the water at speed.

I posted this before, but since we are "Talking Tuff" here's a vid of their 24 hitting 98 mph with a little 250 G2 Evinrude whacker.
Check out all the daylight under the hull towards the end of the video...gives you idea of how these hulls run at speed.

They're a small, speciality builder in Ontario Canada, owned and operated by a former boat racer. They are lightweight, purpose built hull's, which are an evolution of the original George Linder design. The owner calls them lake hot rod's...built for speed, not comfort. In the words of the owner; "if you are looking for something practical, or have to ask you wife's permission:D..our boats are probably not for you".

man.... that quad cam engine on that 860! That thing is an absolute beast.

Are those off the shelf parts or is that a system that merc made? Whats the service interval on those belts? I cant imagine you'd want one of those things to come loose at 6200rpm

Sorry, wrong on the $90K. Had to go back and re-read the thread. It's $134K with motor / transom assembly and M6 drive.

A #6 by itself is a little over $50K

Howard better go buy a bigger engine or they may lose the title lol

124 is an impressive number, but this boat more resembles a drag boat than anything else. At least the Howard has a cabin and some freeboard and seats not on the floor. And I usually consider Howard to be a very small “28”

Hummm.....I'm going to stay on the fence with this boat until I see it with a finished motor cover and interior(back seat) because sadly it has the potential to dethrone the new Fountain Kilo boat for being the #1 Fugliest new boat to hit the water. Running 124mph in a V is fast but having talked to the guy with the white 28 that ran in LOTO Shootout 2016, he claimed he had seen between 120-125mph before so it will be interesting to see where the final numbers of the Merc motor end up falling. Tuffs are a cool boat (love the white 28) but in reality they are extremely small meaning very little boat under you. And I'm sorry but that whole BS of you have to sacrifice comfort for performance is not an acceptable excuse for any boat costing north of $200,000......especially a single engine Vee Bottom with no cabin. I can't see the price being anywhere under $200,000 just from looking at the motor's price and the fact that its a carbon composite boat. $200,000+ price range can buy you a hell of a lot more boat, with a lot more options and tech. Look I love the fact that they made an 860 boat, don't get me wrong. But just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should. There is quite a bit of weight to go into that boat yet, and looking at the size of the 860....that's going to be a huge motor cover which has the potential to add some serious drag on top of the added weight which ultimately put's them at risk of making a once sexy boat into a Fugly Looking Floating Abortion. I hope not but time will tell...should be interesting to see how it plays out.

I'd just like to see a gopro shot of the driver and watch and learn. There's gotta be some serious skill involved in keeping these boats so well balanced on the last couple of inches of their pads. I suspect there's some critical wheel sawing going on along with proper trim and experienced setup. I just want to watch !!

The 28 with twin 300xs's is an awesome boat! I know it isn't nearly as fast as the 28 860....but it's a lot more practical with more interior space too. And the sound of twin outboards NEVER gets old!!! :D

has a 28ss or a 27 speedster been rigged with an 860 yet? I don't see them going much faster than the low 130's that this thing has achieved. Very impressive out of a V

If any of you guys have Instagram, you need to follow @tuff_marine

They just posted a test video of the 28 with the 860, getting ready for LOTO. Boat is so SICK! Can't wait to see it run LOTO

They also have a 28 with twin 400's.

I'm not only impressed by the speed of this 28 / 860 combo, but I didn't realize they were spinning the 860s to 7120 RPM
MR specs show 6300-6800 rpm, so is this 860 modified ?

I don't know, but agree that it is CRAZY for a NA motor that's not an outboard.

Can't wait to see what they put up at LOTO. Been following and there has been a crap ton of testing and dialing in on this boat.

Yeah it ran 130 on another run later, not tested by a magazine though. There’s pictures of the GPS floating around somewhere.

Edit: found them

LoL wonder if Mercury Racing would like to drop an 860 in my SV29....for data and testing of course. I'm always willing to help in the name of science.:D I wouldn't expect 130's but my SV29 parked next to the Tuff looks like the Queen Mary next to a Canoe....LoL! Great numbers from the boys up north and wish them the best at LOTO and keep her shiny side up!
