Your yellowtail must be related to our Amberjack in FL. We call them reef donkeys.
Fight like hell. Marginal table fare, but very good smoked.
In-law is leaving tomorrow morning out of San Diego after BF. They're catching 40-80 pounders (I call those guppies) and he's leaving again next weekend. First 2 trips of the year.Filled 2 coolers! View attachment 669704

30- 90lb's
He only sent me pics, haven’t talked to him yet. Leaving again this weekend. How far out were they?
They went 100 miles south but had better luck coming back to about 65 miles out.How far out were they?
He just got back from a 3 dayer, limited out, one 197lb'er the rest were 40-60. picking them up from the processor tomorrow morning then headed to Phils for some
BEEF RIBS. I'll take pics of the trays tomorrow.
allowed two per day,but on 3+ day trips, how much is too much??Especially if they are the 100+lb models!Do the math on the processing costs at $1.65LB whole wieght (net "bagged"is only around 35%)GETS INSANE$$$$$$.I get that you always keep fishing to the boat gets full limits which can include crew.home freezers can get full FAST...In-law just got back, 30-90, no cows, but 1 caught that was 180. He caught 14 and gave 10 away and kept 4.
He hands off to guys that didn't catch their limit and to the crew. Cost of processing doesn't bother him. He goes to East Coast Canada to fish for 1,000 lbers. on fish you aren't allowed to keep. Now that's ridiculous.allowed two per day,but on 3+ day trips, how much is too much??Especially if they are the 100+lb models!Do the math on the processing costs at $1.65LB whole wieght (net "bagged"is only around 35%)GETS INSANE$$$$$$.I get that you always keep fishing to the boat gets full limits which can include crew.home freezers can get full FAST...
conservation is the key word here..very cool that he hands off fishthis biomass Bluefin local to SD is insane, but who knows when it could turn off forever? My fee, last month just for cutting/bagging gross weight of 430lbs was $730.00.Only netted 165lbs (bagged)still a shit ton of fish that i share with family and friendsHe hands off to guys that didn't catch their limit and to the crew. He would go if it was catch and release, he likes the fight.conservation is the key word here..very cool that he hands off fishthis biomass Bluefin local to SD is insane, but who knows when it could turn off forever? My fee, last month just for cutting/bagging gross weight of 430lbs was $730.00.Only netted 165lbs (bagged)still a shit ton of fish that i share with family and friends
I prefer yellow tail over tuna. Hamachi is my favorite.
It does but better aged a little, like a good steak.Meguro is my favorite. The interwebs says it comes from the Pacific Bluefin.
Must taste Awesome right off the hook!!

I caught a Tuna in Cabo, the deck hand prepared some sashimi in real time right after. It was the best sashimi I’ve ever had.

I'm not bashful. Let me know if you have some extra taking up room in the freezer. Do you shoot? Trade most any caliber reloads.I get more than I can eat. The Games family stocks me up. Uncle Bruce loves to fish, but doesn’t eat fish. Lol.
