Weird stuff happening with my 1991 Suburban 350-auto 4x4... When u turn right the engine dies... starts right back up and goes. Left turns no problem.

Any suggestions on this one? I am gonna check the following for problems:

Power steering system

Vacuum lines

Electrical connections

Thanks, Mike

Good thing this wasn't a medical question...

Take 2 asprin and post here in the morning! :D

Seriousy though, this is not gonna get diagnoised here. Too many possible variables to even venture a guess.

You gotta find out WHY its dyin first! Fuel cutting out? Spark cutting out? Once you know which one it is, then you can back track from there.

I know this is not the answer you want. Sorry bout that.

Is it when you turn the wheel all the way to the right? I've had that problem when the power steering pump is working hard and the truck is cold. The motor at idle could not keep up with the demand of the pump. If it's not this, then I have no F'ing idea!!

I would guess a battery or power cable shorting out to the frame. Happened to me for a while on my 86 Chevy 1500 short bed. A sharp mechanic found a loose wire.

Good luck!

does it do it only when your foot is barely on the gas? if so then look into cleaning the IAC. it opens up when theres something drawing on your engine, like an alternator, power steering, or air conditioner to keep the RPM's up. it sits right at the throttle body and lets air bypass the plate. usually comes off with 2 small bolts and the electrical connector. take some carb cleaner, spray it in the holes and get the gunk out, then slap it back on. you can also leave the battery disconnected for like 30 mins or so, that way the ECU has to relearn what it takes to make the car idle. first start might be a little rough.

secondly figure out why your power steering is working so damn hard.

Thanks much to all who responded... all posts were appreciated.

Now for the problem and solution....

Problem: Fuel gauge broke and was indicating 1/2 tank

Solution: Put fuel in tank... viola~ she runs again.

The diagnosis on this took a bit of time, but one has to be thorough when confronted with a problem... I thought I was getting really good mileage this week~

Thanks much, Mike

Glad you figured it out. I thought for sure it was a bat cable.

I had a 95 Suburban that honked the horn when turning right. that was a fun one.

I had a 79 VW Scirocco that when you honked the horn, it killed the engine..:grumble:

Good to hear your problem was so simple.:thumbsup
