I'm performing a repower on a Formula 370SS right now. Owner is removing the perfectly running 525s and bravo3XRs to replace with new DTS 520s and running gear so he can digitize.

Engines and drives have been meticulously maintained their entire lives. Engines run perfect with no issues but are coming up on the top end refresh service interval. Drives are in perfect working order. Comes with complete hp transom assemblies but the steering in the assemblies is on the loose side.

Located in Austin, TX
Owner is looking for $40k OBO for the entire package.

If anyone is interested let me know and I can put you in contact with him

Yep, that's what hes asking.

Customer is retaining his headers to put on his new engines so engines will not come with exhaust, otherwise everything is there.

You can! Just buy the whole package, keep one motor and sell the rest. Easy haha :D

Yea, but I don't see bravo 3's being all the popular, and that I don't have 40k to upfront on motors/drives

Just a little word to the wise, I think these are early 525's. Check for MLS head gaskets. If they dont have them, budget in pulling the heads. You'll need to source exhaust that can be double drilled to the 525 pattern so only CMI or the less premium OEM replacement products...

Still, this package makes sense money wise, especially if you have a twin engine boat with older carb stuff with non HP gimbals.

The new 520s have the same pattern on the exhaust as the 525s?

I believe they do. 520/540/565 same head with the merc pattern. I want to say the newer heads are edelbrock with both patterns in them but Im not sure.....

They are similar to, but NOT the same head as the 525, they are improved.

Headers just left to cmi to be reworked this morning including redoing the flange to meet up to the new engines and to have the water bypass deleted.

Like mentioned. Engines were running great but they are up at about that time where a top end refresh would be advisable but only from a pure maintainence standpoint. Gimbal rings still appear tight but I would recommend replacing the steering levers/tillers as that is where the play seams to be located.

Digitize?

Hes doing away with his mechanical controls (throttle and shift) to replace with dts. He is also removing all the gauges from his dash in favor of a garmin/vessel view dual screen setup. Hes keeping mechanical steering for now but is having me rig for and may consider installing Axius at a later date.

Typical phantom codes only, no other active codes on either engine.

Yes but 500hrs are at idle/key-on only which should be taken into consideration. I can perform a leakdown and any other checks wanted/needed for any serious parties upon request

Almost a thousand hours!? Holy shit. That might literally be a record. I'd like to ask the owner how the hell he made a performance marine motor last nearly 1,000 hours. Obviously part of the answer is most of those hours were at idle.

So going back to the ob vs i/o thread, these engines are a perfect example of what I was talking about. Taken care of properly their entire lives even while pushing a heavy tub, and they still run great. I personally watched this near 40 ft cabin cruiser run at over 60mph not more than 3 weeks ago with these engines under the hood and they didnt complain one bit. I could easily see them having another 500 hours of life with only basic regular maintenance before the heads had to be pulled.

if they go in another cruiser, maybe.
Put them in a performance boat where you spend the majority of your time over 3k and these engines will have issues and require an overhaul very quickly.
