Browsing Marketplace, OfferUp, Craigslist, etc…

Seems the majority of the ads are in Spanish. Do white people not buy or sell on the private market anymore?

Wife put a few things on Marketplace yesterday, she & her sis were disposing of their mothers belongings.
Within minutes she had a handful of scammy messages asking her to text her ph# & shit like "did you get my text code for verification?"....she's like Fuck nooooo.
They mostly seemed like bots.

I have my bronco up on all the sites. Getting a shitload of scam messages and getting pretty goddamn tired of it.
I listed my S10 yesterday and got the same thing for the first 5 or so inquiries…I asked them for their zip code and that made them go away. I was half tempted to just scrap the fucking thing until someone committed to being here in an hour.

Amazing that with all the fucking technology we have, we can’t put down these scams.

I thought all inmates started with a "What's this worth" thread on RDP first. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I think it's a great way to get it to someone you have an affiliation with. I would much rather buy or sell to an inmate.

I wanna buy something....not sell something. My S10 has scratches and dents...it's not worthy of "should I spend $400 so my steering wheel stitching matches the hub color anodizing better" crowd....thus, no 2FF style post. lol

Just drove down to Santa Ana to look at a Tacoma....stupid mexican gave me the address of a church. He can keep it a bit longer.

Lots of hispanics buy salvage cars and either repair themselves or take to Mexico and repair for pennies and try to sell them. Also, may middle easterners flipping cars.

I have a buddy that flipped cars years ago and he said some demographics of car flippers almost always roll back odometers so be careful. Basically, he said don't buy from certain people and only buy if you know the seller has paperwork showing they owned a car for a long period of time.

Thats crazy talk....real Mexicans only drive Chevy's....
Out here, every Mexican dirt work or landscape guy has a Cummins. Great part is, they have no clue how to work on them, and right now are making enough to pay to have them fixed!
To be fair, they all had Duramax trucks at one point, and one has a 7.3 Ford as a back up.
We're all inclusive!

If I spoke Spanish and I was marketing a car to other Spanish speaking people, I’d probably write the ad in Spanish. Just thinking out of the box here.

This is why I came to you asking if you had a contact for LS/LT1 pull outs.

😂

Found one in Texas through fleabay. Had my bud in Dallas check it out & avoided fleabay & tax.

Now onto a T56 magnum CR. Got any connections there?

Just go straight to Tremec and get a TKO600 or whatever their modern version of that is (last one I bought was 20 years ago)

So...I'm looking for a Tacoma 4x4. Mostly as a runabout for around town so I can leave me crew cab chevy in the driveway, but was thinking if I found something nice that would become our new road trip rig. Salvage title junk with north of 200K miles starts at $15K and goes up from there. A freaking dealer has one with about 270K miles on and clearly fucked up clearcoat visable in the photos and they're asking $23K? People have gone mad.

Found a 2008 about 100 miles away with 280K miles and a claimed bad timing chain....needs to be towed, $5K. Last time I went through one of these engines it cost me about $600 in parts. I think I might jump on it....when it runs it'll be a $20K truck. lol.

My son just sold a 1998 2 wheel drive Explorer to Pick A Part. They gave him $750 sight unseen. Didnt even care if it ran. Even prices of junk have gone up it appears.

It probably had 4 catalytic converters on it....lol

I listed my 2002 S10 ZR2 (230K miles, rebuilt engine and trans) for $4200 a couple days ago and by the end of the day, after a few offers of half my asking price, someone came by with $3500 cash for it. I thought that was reasonable. Hard to tell if anyone is actually getting these asking prices. Hell, relatively nice Tacomas that are less than 5 years old with 100K miles are only $5-8,000 less than a fucking new one.

Boggles the mind. I can't believe that folks are actually paying $6-700/month on a truck with 100K miles on it. That just seems dumb to me.

Yeah, In process...t56 mag.

Did you order already? I have a friend that is a dealer that may be able to save you a few bucks.

Which one you looking at? Wide or close ratio? I gotta say I am super pleased with mine.

I bought our 2016 4Runner in 2017 with 19k miles on it for $28k… It has 99k miles now and I could sell it today for $28k and if I held out to the weekend, maybe $30k 😂

The Guy on PCH by the old pacific Yamaha is the used tacoma guy. He always has a bunch of them. But like you said 5k off from New with 80-100k miles. 4x4 you probably looking at 40k gor a nice 1 used. We paid 32k used few years ago for 1 for my Mom. It was 2wd and not loaded but nicely outfitted with 10k miles.

A quick look at Carmax makes me think that I could sell my 2017 Sonata for just about what I paid for it used in 2018. I am seriously thinking about selling it and banking the cash until prices return to normalcy. We would still have 2 cars to drive, and I really want to replace either the Ram or the Highlander with something newer. $15K would be a nice down payment.

Have any of you out in Cali seen the used truck market start to slip at all? Out here, and down in Phoenix, it looks as if the past 2-3 weeks the trucks have started to approach reality again. Out here, for the past 2 years you wouldn't see a 2001 or 2 Cummins truck for under 20k. Maybe if it had over 300k and dash held together with silicone, it would be 15k. The past couple weeks I've been seeing them, and fairly clean Duramax units, sub-20 and even sub-15. There are still outliers shooting for the moon, but far fewer.

I might just buy another 4th gen 4runner....found a few 2006-2007 with 100Kish miles on 'em in the $10K range.

I don't want a 2015 and later....the 3.5L is a dog. We took my Dad's 2020 sienna to the river last week for a quick turn around trip and all the nannys that fucking thing has drove both of us batshit insane.

Also shocking are the amount of rebuilt/salvage titles....just reinforces the fact that modern stuff is too expensive to repair correctly...the insurance companies are just totalling everything it looks like.

The 2015+ have a a very similar 4.0 V6 as the Gen 4 4Runners do. They make a little more power. Same crappy mileage :)

When did they go to the 3.5L?...thought it was 2015/2016.

The wife gets 20+ in her 2003 4runner on the highway. That's twice what my chevy gets, so that's good mileage to me.
