Wondering why all the intercoms seem to be PTT? In my boat we had a system that was always on. Seemed to work great in that application.

Most in car systems work via voice, VOX, activation unless there is so much wind/engine noise that the squelch cannot be set to tune that out then a PTT button is required. The PTT is usually enabled only on car to car communications.
