I have this 1985 Suzuki RM 125 that has a burnt piston. The orig. rubber intake manifold got a hole in it and it leaned out and burnt the piston. Is there a engine
exchange Co. Out there where I can buy a complete fresh eng. and exchage this as a core? Do they do that with m.c. engines like auto's?

I do not know of a place to exchange motors for bikes. Also, in many states, the motor vin is also on the title for motorcycles. Just something to check..... btw cool old RM. I dig vintage motos!

Pull the barrel and piston. Don’t know where you live but independent shop could do it no problem. Or a reputable mail in rebuilder. Unless you did more than melt the edge off and grenaded the whole deal.
Top end was a regular service on those.

At the condition it sits now you would want to rebuild the complete engine as I'm sure all the seals have hardened and once started it could pull air in from there and lean out again taking you right back where you started.

In the day, that was a great bike, but time moves on. Gonna cost 3-4 grand to put that back into a fully rideable condition. Most folks who would do that, would choose a bike bigger than a 125. You are going to have to price that really low (under $500) to get a buyer IMHO.

Race Tech will charge at least $1500 to do the suspension when you can't source what you need at the dealer. I bet the oil and springs are 30 yrs old. Tires, tubes, chain, grips, filter, fenders etc. will be another $500, maybe more. Then you have to do a complete engine rebuild, again trying to find all the parts for a 35 yr old dirt bike. Any private mechanic is probably going to charge $75 hr. to do it up right. Sorry but these things get spendy fast.

But if a fella were to spend $3000 and some hours in the garage doing the work, he could take that thing racing once a month with District 37 and have a blast doing the Gran Prix or desert series. It doesn't take a $10,000 KTM to go fast and have fun doing it.

^^^ These guys say a restored RM125 like yours is gonna run ya $7000. That's high but they have a big inventory of some nice stuff.
