Viper ACR's at Nurburgring

For those of you who love American Muscle. there are 2 Viper ACR's at the Ring trying to set a new production car track record. The effort is totally funded by fans and owners of the Viper, There are a few in kind sponsors like Kuhmo tires. The Go Fund Me raised $177,600 on a $159K ask. They've been there for about a week and have had not so great weather. Yesterday they ran on a green track still sorting out the cars and ran a 7.03 lap. In comparison, the Porsche 918 ran a 6.57 lap previously. Not to shabby for a $130K American car vs a $1,000,000 Hybrid Supercar.

My friend is there, he's a Dodge/Viper dealer. He said, last week, weather was ideal to run but the cars weren't ready. Go figure, it's not so ideal now that they're ready for the run:grumble:. Since this attempt not backed by Fiat/Chrysler [ typical :rolleyes] they can't change venue, run what you brung. Have doubts they can beat the 918 but ther's always hope.:thumbsup

They were going through rear hubs. I understand they went through 3 of 4 spares. Now they have more. If they can't run Friday, they will probably leave the cars there, come back home, and try again in August.
No more Vipers being made so it would really be special if they could beat the 918 time. Cross your fingers.

The 918 has 875 HP total vs Viper's 640. The electric motors engaged, transforming the Spyder into a four wheel drive is a tall order to beat.The Vipers fixed wing is it's Achilles heel vs Spyders computer controlled one.

Hopefully, Dominik can improve the time in August, closing the 6 sec gap between the Viper and 918 spyder and not missing a shift or two like in this video Regardless, 7:03 is still the king for a manual six speed car at the ring:thumbsup

My brother is running a 2010 1/33 edition ACR at the Optima ultimate street car challenge, he tried running 2 classes the GTL class with his vett and the GTS class with the viper but I was to difficult to do both classes so the race shops mechanic is running the Viper now

Austin won his class at the July event at Pikes peak and will be in the final in Vegas, Vetts usually dominate both of these divisions but he has a good shot at winning the GTS class in the Viper this year.

Just you all know Ken Kirkaldy used to be on here and he just got a brand new ACR, which is beautiful. There is a small viper contingency on here. I used to have one myself. GO VIPER. the greatest american made muscle car ever built.
