Congress is debating raising the minimum hourly wage to $15. Most Walmart employees are paid $7 to $8.

The Walton family is one of the richest families in the USA (billionaires). They were invited to send a representative to the hearings; they declined.

Costco pays $15/hr minimum; they did send a representative to the hearing. They just went to $16/hr

1. At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer, and most can't speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger Safeway combined, keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx. 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur At a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion).

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

13. The value of product for Wal-Mart passing through the port of San Diego each year is a larger sum than 93% of ALL countries Gross National Product (GNP)..... and that is only ONE port... one way – that’s how Wal-Mart gets it's stuff.

14. Of the 1.6 million employees, only 1.2% make a living above the poverty level.

15. Wal-Mart's head office is located and centralized in Bentonville, AR. Due to this fact, there are more millionaires per square mile there than any place on Earth.

16. The official U.S. Government position is that Wal-Mart's prices are no lower than anyone else's when compared to a typical families weekly purchase. That's the view of the statisticians at the Bureau Of Labor Statistics (BLS) responsible for calculating the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

17. 92% of everything Wal-Mart sells, comes from China . Another 4% comes from Chinese owned companies in the U . S . or in 3rd world Countries.

18. Wal-Mart and MOST large companies, take out life insurance on its employees, without their knowing.
If an employee dies, ALL the insurance moneys go to the companies. ( i.e. An employee making $18,000 per year, dies, and the company might make as much as $1 million. Most often these monies, coming from what is commonly referred to as "Dead Peasant Life Insurance Policies", is paid out to executives as bonuses. A common practice, unknown by the average consumer.

19. Wal-Mart now averages a "profit" (not sales) of $36 billion per year.

20. Let Wal-Mart bail out Wall Street. If not, consider shopping someplace else.

If all the Wal-Mart stores for some reason closed, would China go bankrupt? Scary thought?

My cousin started at Winco way back in the day. Most she ever made was like $18hr. She never sold any of her stock and has now retired as a millionaire. Not bad for scanning groceries.

I think the bigger issue is that the US government crushed small businesses and inflated huge corps (Costco, Walmart, target, Amazon, etc).

Somehow the above is basic capitalism (it’s not) and forcing them to pay a decent wage is socialist.

You effectively killed open market competition, allowed the big guys to absorb the labor force and now want a free market

No different that the GameStop investors. If the hedge funds make money it’s a fair market, if they lose it’s illegal market manipulation.

Lately the idea of a fair and open market is a joke.

How long will we continue to blame Walmart? Are they holding a gun to the head of those applying? Maybe we should be thanking them for providing entry level jobs. Like said before, if you don't like them, don't shop there. But they do seem to supply a much needed opportunity for many to make somewhat of a living.

I laugh at this shit. Anyone who thinks places like Walmart will hold prices and eat the wage increase are crazy. It goes right into the cost of goods. So guess what? Your $15/hr salary will buy you the same amount of shit you were buying with 8/hr. You want to make more then get a better job. Jeez

When you get hired at Walmart there are instructions in the welcome package on how to apply for government assistance to make up for the lack of wages they pay. We subsidize Walmart employees with welfare so the richest family in America can get richer, a higher minimum wage could get these people off welfare and the Waltons will still make tons of $$$.

I worked for Sam's Club for many years. I started out as a cashier and worked my way up to an assistant manager in 2 years with no college degree. It was a tough job and a lot of hours, but I made a decent salary, great bonuses, had good insurance, 401k matching, employee stock purchase plan where I bought stock at a discount. I also had salary continuance, so when I went out on maternity leave I didn't have to go on disability. Could they pay their employees more? Sure, but that can be said for any company. They provide a lot of opportunities for those willing to work.

I never saw that when I was hired.

When I left Sam's Club, I went to a grocery store.

While there ,I had union employees making $20 an hour ask me to schedule them less hours so they could get on welfare...

No, a higher wage will reduce employee hours, reduce the number of employees, and keep the same number or more on welfare. Don't believe me? Why are there electronic ordering kiosks in every fast food restaurant now if simply paying people $15 was the simple answer.

Giving poor people more money for the sake of giving them more money fixes nothing when all the crap they consume is going to go up in price, keeping them on government assistance.

Mega Corporations like Walmart, Amazon, Home Depot, etc... all can easily afford to pay their employees at least $15 an hour but they won't. However behind closed doors they are pushing for a $15 Minimum Wage nationwide. Why is that? Why not just pay your employees more you say? Because if they can get the minimum wage up to $15 an hour they know this will drive a majority of small Mom & Pop businesses into bankruptcy because after 12 months of Covid restrictions most of these businesses are cash poor and cannot afford to pay their employees 2X what is required today. In doing so these Mega Corporations will gobble up even additional market share. It's a very insidious plan!!!

If it passes you better go out and load up on Duck Dynasty Zinfandel and Wolf t-shirts, because cost will be passed down to the consumer.

100% correct. The number of jobs that will be lost is staggering. It’s not just taking the entry level jobs up. The cost of adjusting for compaction is just as costly. Moving those that were making $15 up and then all the way up the line is huge. The Waltons aren’t making the decisions or profiting from this. The board of directors and the executive leadership team make la the decisions. Decisions are made based on what investors will reward them for.

I love when they try and slam walmart but nothing about what they give back to the local communities.
Anyone go during their free health care screening and flu shots?
Anyone use their free grocery pick up?
Anyone go early on tuesday when Mrs EZ is there by 6 am to help you?

The one-time $5,000 per facility builds on Walmart’s ongoing community efforts. Last year, Walmart gave more than $42 million in local grants, provided over 3 million free health screenings and donated more than 640 million pounds of food to local food banks, over 55% of which was fruits, vegetables and meats.

You're partially right about what you're saying about automation (order kiosks) replacing workers because salaries are going up, or are already too high.
The increase in the amount of automation that is going to hit every industry in the next couple of years is going to be shocking....and the amount of people that will be redundant will be shocking.
EG: those same restraunts with the ordering kiosks will have no one working in the kitchens.
Even the most basic low paying, low paying jobs are going to be replaced and soon.
And...it's not just the low paying jobs at stake. Why would steamship lines want any humans working at a port ? - loading and unloading container ships?

So what should the going rate be for staring at your shoes, not being concerned about the quality of your work and not being able to construct a sentence beyond, "ah Im not sure".

I agree. A $15 minimum wage will just ramp up automation efforts.

....but you'll pay more taxes, so your $15 will actually buy you less, but put more of yore money back in the hands of the .gov. It's a brilliant plan and the demotard voters will support it.

What about the smaller businesses that are running on tight margins? I had 34 employees at the last business I owned. Some were skilled higher paid positions, but most were clerks or washed cars. Our net profit margin was extremely small. There is no way we could have absorbed an increase in minimum wage that would have increased our payroll that much. We would have found a way to cut positions, or we would have shutdown.

There isn’t a large brick and mortar retailer hoping this goes through. This isn’t 1980 where the share to be taken is from a mom/pop down the street. The share is going online. There’s more payroll in a store than in a DC pushing out 10x the volume.
PS. Every major retailer has bumped up their starting wages over the last couple years. It’s based on cost of living and the availability of labor not a blanket spread.

I had this happen at my business. I would offer OT and employees would turn it down because it would screw up their government handouts.

So instead of having 2 $8 employees, you'll find one that is more skilled/efficient and pay them $15. So, more unemployment overall.

Soon thanks to online shopping there will be no local retail, no hands on up close seeing products, read the shitty description and roll the dice.
Even HD and Lowes are more and more pushing online versus stocking things --- I hate it, I enjoy shopping and seeing things in person versus reading a vague description.
Now Fry's closing, Best Buy terminating full time sales staff, it's all going away. Hell even car sales is becoming an online transaction -- fuck that. 🤬

We went to a local Chili's the other day because there's a Chicken Wing place advertised within. Well except, if you actually go there you can't order or receive food off that Wings Menu --- nope, it's only available if you order through Door Dash --- AND even if you do, you can't pick it up at Chili's where the kitchen is --- Nope, needs to be delivered somewhere else. Essentially this Chicken Wing business, is owned by the parent company of Chili's, uses Chili's kitchen, but they've made an agreement with Door Dash --- WTF

So there ya have it, so the time is rapidly approaching, want groceries, order online and they'll be delivered, want take out, order online and it will be delivered --- Virtual Doctors, we'll only have to go out for surgery --- not doing that shit in my house and I guess dental work, I dunno, like I tell my wife, there's more an more things about modern day life that makes me so glad I'm old and can still remember when there were malt shops with juke boxes 🥰

This is the shit you get when government run schools dont teach economics and finances anymore. Wait till these same people that are now making $15 an hour are paying $8,9 or 10 dollars for milk or double for food across the board. Will it be this high? Probably not, but maybe.

Min wage is $14.60 per hour here. Walmart's here have installed self check out kiosks. I was in Walmart last night at 6pm. They had one cashier on.

Target bought out a discount chain here called Zellers (like K-Mart). They converted all the stores to Target. They lasted six months in Canada and folded.

Walmart is not the only store chain installing banks of self check out kiosks here, even Costco is doing it. A chain like Walgreens here, was in one of their stores and they had no cashiers, it was all self check out.

Higher min wage means less employee's!!!!!

There will still be brick and mortar, they will just be large Amazon and Walmart type stores. These corporations need local distribution hubs, as there is always a need to have things in stock today for pickup, and they need a local presence to process returns, etc. Amazon started with online and is now going brick and mortar. Walmart has done the opposite and has the brick and mortar distribution already in place.

The CoLo kitchen deal is something that has picked up a HUGE amount of steam in the last year. It is really smart - no front of the house operations, no dealing with the public, low overhead, just cook the food and have Door Dash cretons pick it up and deliver it to your customers. Many higher end restaurants are operating out of these shared kitchens that are geographically dispersed, and are able to provide food to a greater number of customers.

Don't forget guys, higher min wage equals more payroll taxes! They know the corps won't eat the cost and drive up the cost of goods and what does that mean? More sales tax, also more revenue so more corp tax and so on. This puts money back into the system for the handouts and makes it harder for people to apply. This has nothing to do with helping people it's about tax revenue.

I like self checkout. Faster and EZier.
Early mornings there was only one regular cashier anyway unless it got busy
I don't have to walk up behind someone checking out with a weeks worth of groceries
And there are still employees at self checkout to help out or approve alcohol sales
I think there are actually more employees now at self checkouts

Our Walmart's don't sell alcohol. Only one person watching the self serve. They employ less since min wage was increased here. Its not just Walmart, fast food employs less too.
