I believe that given his choice of degree, for ASU he would be at the Phoenix campus for classes. However, they do have shuttles that run between Tempe and Phx, so perhaps it's possible to live on campus in Tempe and commute to the Phx campus. My son got his degree in Exercise Science and ended up at NAU because he did not like the ASU Phx campus.

NAU participates in the WUE program and you basically get a 40% discount on the out of state tuition rate. Info HERE.

NAU is a deal, if you know what you want and don’t change majors.
limited options if you want to change

I went to ASU. Wife went to ASU, UofA and a masters from GCU.

I spent 11 years at Station 1 in downtown Phoenix. I’m still not sold on the downtown campuses for a lot of reasons. Too many to list and all from experience
UofA has the reputation in AZ for making doctors.

Both are schools with a lot of partying so be aware. ASU was ranked #1 for it at a time. Maybe still is

Both schools are good and will offer your son an experience that is NOTHING like what he is currently doing in H.B. UofA is more of a traditional school experience with a consolidated campus to support nearly 45K students and strong community support. UofA pride is everywhere. My son is 2nd year Eller School of Business at UofA and loves it.
My nephew graduated from the Eller BUisness school 6yrs ago . While going there he did one semester in europe

You live in HB? Just curious.

Does he want to do his undergrad and DPT at the same place?
Only asking because I have 2 graduate degrees in Kinesiology. Look at UNLV too. They have a DPT program
We live in Long Beach, and I can see CSULB out my front door. He is hell bent on going away for some life experience. I’ll suggest he research UNLV.
Yes, his idea is undergraduate/DPT in the same place.

Neither school is on this top 100 list for PT. NAU is. Personally If I'm paying my kids are staying in state to avoid out of state rip off. If that matters to you looks like SD or Chapman are the best answers. Chapman is a great school. I have several friends and family members that are alumni.

My wife is a U of A alumni.

This. I’d pick SDSU all day over the AZ schools.

My wife went to Chapman, and they have a strong local network, but damn is that school expensive.

These discussions are always a bit of mental gymnastics. I feel sorry for my kids. I told them if I'm paying I'm making sure I'm getting the best value for my money. Out of state tuition is a deal killer right off the bat for me.
Have them play any sport and they will get in under title 9.

Wealthy friends daughter from So Cal played lacrosse in high school and got a ride at a small University in CO.

I feel sorry for the local kids that can’t get into their own home town college or have to pay full boat because they gave away a free seat to some girl from out of state that does nothing more then play lacrossse WTF.

I went to ASU from 2010-2015. It was amazing experience and I’m for sure a totally different person in this life for having gone away to school. I loved Tempe. I lived 5 blocks west of campus, rode my bike or skateboard everywhere. I went for construction engineering so all of my classes were at Tempe campus. I also stayed year round and took summer courses which were honestly the best time of the year because the city was completely empty. the construction engineering program was awesome, teachers we’re all good ol boys and cowboy contractors who were retired and had a great grasp on what was important. Every kid in the program had multiple white collar job offers after graduation. Most who’ve I have stayed in touch with are doing very well.

I loved Phoenix as a base because it was 2hr to snow in winter, 2 hr to river in summer, and my roomate @BingerFang and I rode dirt bikes and raced every weekend and then went for beers after in cave creek. You have an international airport 10 min away, Scottsdale is 5 min away if you want to go live the high life for a night, and you have concerts and pro sports every weekend of your into that.

As a school ASU is huge, you can take any class you want and do pretty much aim for any degree. They have it all. And the “party school” vibe I think was more accurate in the 80s-90s. The new millennials still like to get crazy on mill but for most part they are all addicted to thier phones and don’t all mingle like they used too.

Phoenix has so many ASU grads, and is such a large city, if you want to work during school or stay after school it’s easy to make connections and get a starter job, economically PHX is a great place for a young person to start out and get thier finances going vs trying to live on your own in LA/OC where it’s so expensive.

I eventually went back to LA for family reasons but miss the simpler times in Phx.

I was told they don't do free seats for swimming?

I don’t know, ASU has quite the swim program as I understand Phelps would be there at times helping.

My youngest graduated ASU with a degree in Biological Sciences, she has BS in BS. 😊 She just hooked up with the city of Phoenix in crime scene forensics. If your boy loves and is working at the beach now he might want ASU with the lakes around here, we use them a lot. Don't compare to SoCal beaches (I'm a native) but I've loved it for 16 years now. Best of luck to him wherever he goes. 👍

She might have the last laugh about the BS when she retires at 50 with the rule of 80 city of Phoenix pension, medical and a nice 457 plan!

At one point, they were doing rides for womens team, not mens. Had something to do with title 9...football took X many for males, so they balanced that way. That was a long time ago though.

Side note, Phelps is finishing a house up here...kind of surprised me. Built in Prescott Valley not Prescott

I am just throwing out this....... not specifically for the OP, but for some parent giving their kid ideas about the future.

Knowing what I know now....... I wish I had gone to a U.S. Maritime Academy. There are so many jobs available, it is ridiculous. Not just to be a Captain. You can learn Port Management. Ship Design. Shipping Cargo Specialist. Ship Engineering. The list goes on and on. Just about every product you use is shipped by boat somewhere and that worldwide industry is not going anywhere...... it’s expanding! When you graduate, there are plenty of 6 figure jobs available. The boat captains with 1600ton licenses that shuttle workers to the oil rigs earn $800 per day, as an example, and you don’t even need to be a Maritime Academy graduate to get that job.

Once you have an unlimited license and clock over 26,000 sea hours, you now qualify to be a Harbor Pilot. The National average pay for that job is $411,000 per year. However, the Harbor Pilots in Fort Lauderdale earn between 700k and 800k per year.

Just imagine being in your early 20’s making six figures, while living on a ship in which you pay no rent, and have all your meals prepared by a chef? By the time you turn 40, you should be able to get a cruise ship at your command by then. There are better paying captains jobs than cruise ship captain....... but I doubt they are nearly as fun, especially for a dedicated bachelor.

Captains that work for military contractors can make huge bank!

Last but not least...... the above is truly a great way to see the world, get paid, and have the adventure of a lifetime. It isn’t for everyone, but for some...... it’s a great life. Thanks for reading.
