Seems pretty cheap for such a huge piece of offshore racing history? Wonder why it went so low?

The Apache cult is strong. 40 year old race boat (read: road hard and put away wet) straight bottom vee, no cabin, 5 pack bolsters, wet 6’s and carbed old school blower motors. I hate to poo poo but that’s a lot of money for that thing especially when it’s not a true “frame off” restore like scalp hunter is.

I’d rather have this all day.

More than I thought. Was thinking $325k would do it.

Crazy price for that Apache. Not sure what kind of shape it was in from the pictures, but it takes cubic money to make them 100%. That’s all the money for a 6 pack race boat.

Probably some old guy that saw it race when he was a kid. More money than brains, oh shit, I'm describing over half the inmates, including myself!

I think it’s crazy money for an old race boat.. but I suspect the person that purchased it probably wants the race nostalgia and will restore it and keep it as a museum piece.. in which case what’s crazy money to me, might be a drop in the bucket to them.

Hull #1. Enough said. Surprised it didn't sell for more, even though it's been raced hard for years. It's such an iconic boat and a truckload of history to go along with it. 👍

Got any race history on this one?

It's a little over the top like a SEMA vehicle for me, not my thing personally. I can appreciate the effort and $ though!

Seems pricey but didn't someone pay over a $100K for a banana?

And I thought this one on Facebook Marketplace was overpriced. But might be wrong: Facebook

Yeah, I've heard people love or hate the color. I dig it. Not a race boat. 87 pleasure 41.

Any pictures of the outdrives? I think this was the boat heading north through San Luis Obispo on the 101 today

Looking through the Apache forum on OSO will make you appreciate these beasts even more. Very small market, especially for a race setup. Buyer will spend the purchase price bringing the boat to 100%, and even more keeping it 100%. Want to convert to a pleasure setup? Figure purchase price again. Awesome wave crushing boats, but antiquated and slow for what they are. Much better deals to be had for the discriminating buyer.

I have considered setting up mfg forums like the old days.. Especially for the east coast folks since OSO shit the bed, and SOS turned out to be frauds. I just don't know if anyone would even bother anymore after the disappointments.

You think you saw Warpath or Scalp Hunter running up the 101?

I would doubt it was either actually. Warpath is on the east coast still i'm pretty sure and Scalp Hunter is in LOTO.

drives on Warpath. Wet 6's.

John Peterson was running his red 44GTX outerlimits "Holy Smoke" in Santa Barbara last week. Maybe it was him running around the 101. Dry 6’s hanging off the back of his ride.

so i have noticed on both warpath and scalp hunter, the steering wheel placement looks odd. is there are reason the wheel is vertical? seems like it would be pretty uncomfortable. why not have them on a more natural angle?

@Tank

Thought you might appreciate this boat. Its a 42 Apache Cat. 1 of 4 made and 1 of only 2 survivors. A friend of mine in Michigan owns it and is nearly finished with the restoration. He's planning on LOTO or SCF @LOTO next year to unveil the boat. Look at the size of this beast as compared to a pick-up. As the second shot shows, he's removed the radar arch.

Oh yea, old Apache Cat. Big bastards! Heavy mo-fo's too. Your buddy buy that out of Lauderdale?

Built in the late 80's, basically what they did was cut a vee in half to build a cat mold. Kramer did it with the Apache cats and Aronow did it with a stretched 36 Cigarette to make the 39 Blue Thunder U.S. Customs boats (which is the company he sold to Kramer and then the feds voided the contract because Kramer was a convicted felon, don went in and bought the company back from Kramer at pennies on the dollar and that didn't sit well with Kramer, thus is the alleged motive for the hit on Aronow).

That's how they did it in the 80's. It's awkward as FUCK to drive too. I'm not a fan. Old KV Scarabs of the time and the original 36 Cigarette Mistresses had the same shit. Most every company dumped that shit for an angled helm and adjustable wheel by 1990. It stems from standing up and over the wheel when racing offshore. Vertical wheel was better for that application than a tilted wheel you'd have to reach out a bit for.

Where can you find a boat that will do 75mph+ in huge, huge sea's? 4'-8' swells. Turn the volume up.

Another side bar. This webpage and story of this guy that bought a 41 chief (cousin to the Apache) and the rebuild is pretty cool read. Love how it came out.

I like the original paint scheme better. Its a shame from the description how rough that boat got.

Funny, I always thought the original paint was just, meh. Never was a huge fan of the big Indian heads on the sides of the apaches. Looks gawdy to me and reminds me of the Kachinas from the 90’s.

I dig the black and yellow clean, crisp, sporty paint it has now. All the attention to detail on everything black on yellow is bad ass.

When I was growing up my family would vacation in Ft. Lauderdale in the the late 80s. Watching the Apaches rip on the intercoastal (at that time they had wayyyy less no wakes) was unreal. I saw many of the Ft. Apache crew run / doc up @ Shooters. It was awesome I was 8 -10 years old but I knew that was "making it" in my mind. The boats, wet tshirts, oakley blades, crazy paint jobs. The whole scene was just something I will never forget.

That is an era I wish I could have experienced. Going down Thunder Boat Row must have been next level cool.

'ol Yves Belanger running the 41' Apache Razz in the hey day of Fort Apache. Crazy bit air around the 5 minute mark but shit gives me chills hearing those big blower motors rang out at the 10:00 minute mark while theyre running in Biscayne bay, right through Haulover.

Yves just built some crazy ass 50 Skater "Kong". He also owned Avatar and a few other really nice boats.

@Tank do you know the status on Razz? My trail ends in 2020. Last I read someone mentioned it was in California getting refitted?

That video came across my Instagram, I then for some reason went down the rabbit hole of seeing where it was now.

Seems it was stuck in LOTO for many years in rough shape. Would be cool to see it back to life.

I saw someone said it was in California. But I heard it went to Michigan After it left LOTO. I sent Stinson a text. He’s Apache savant. He should be able to confirm.

Old owner from the video above now owns the 50 skater Kong. Also owned avatar and a Doug Wright, few others.

Thanks tank. I figured you were the one to ask. My curiosity has got the best of me today.
