Well, the Big Daddy is going to be the easiest single to get up on. If you dont want something that wide, get this:

But really, if you are worried about getting up, the Big Daddy will perform well enough for you.

Or you could get up on doubles and drop a ski like the old days when 75 HP outboards couldn't pull up a single ski.

Try this handle, too, if you need help keeping the ski centered:

I have a brand new Connelly Big Daddy in my garage in Parker that was given to me. You are more than welcome to try it!

I have a v-rope or training rope as it is also called but I haven't singled in 15 years, so yeah I just want to get up and I also have a couple friends that want to learn to single, the Big Daddy is what I'm leaning towards but just wanted to see what else was out there.

So wait...y'all are saying that the reason my fatass can't get up and causes the old mercury to make all kinds of funny noises is because I was trying on my old Connelly Rocket that I got when I was 14? I need a Big Daddy I guess.

Big daddy forsure. easy to ski easy to get up on and does not fight you once your up . still can also throw a good turn .
I ski on a connely outlaw through the slalom course and love it. no its not the best for that , but I'm not competing , and I still can get to 22 off at 32mph.

Connelly Big Daddy Slalom

I have one similar in the HO brand
its great you can still turn it sharp
I'll look at HO as well for a used one as well, however I'm pretty surprised at the price of the Big Daddy.

Yeah mines a Connelly Hook, I gave it the old College try last year but I just couldn't make it happen. My daughter is learning to single so I guess she gets my old ski, it's a little big but it will help her is some ways.

I thought the Big Daddy was a little too big and ended up with the one that I linked. With all of the offers to borrow a Big Daddy it seems like you are set though 👍👍

I’m going to try to get up again as well. We bought men’s and women’s Butterknives, but the HO fusion was on our list as well. The forum posts I was reading claimed that the big daddy would be easier at first but you’d outgrow it quickly. The other one I read up on was the HO hovercraft. It looked like that might even be easier and more fun than the big daddy.

I had the big daddy it was squirly as shit. Probably easy to get up on but thats about all it was good for. Gave it to Cambell Carl a while back. I’d suggest getting the special gloves that act like a weight lifting wrist wrap. They take all the pressure off of fingers. Google “water ski glove with dowel”

I was looking for a Big Daddy when I came across the HO Freeride. I went from fighting to get up on an older HO Mach 1 65" to a 69" version of this and getting up was a piece of cake on it.. That was when I was 60 lbs. heavier. I haven't been up on this since I lost the weight last year, but I'm looking to getting on it this summer. https://www.hosports.com/product/waterskis-fusion-freeride

I found mine brand new on eBay for $299 with full wrap boots.

The problem is I most likely won't be in Parker or Havasu this year😔

Subscribed to this thread. I wanna get back up too. I’m 250 now and 20 years older. I wonder if I can still cut.

I’m not sold on the big daddy either

I remembered that when I was mowing the lawn and figured I would message you when I got done. What was the length of it?

71".
Got a set of cheapo composite doubles to go with it. No pics as their in the rafters.

1. You should have joined RDP weight loss challenge
2. Call @H20Toie to hang out for some liquid courage
3. If that doesn’t work, call @cofooter & you won’t even need a ski

make sure your health/life insurance is up to date

I am actually losing weight, I fell at work over the summer and broke both my hands but didn't want to say anything since I was still on probation. In the last couple of weeks I was able to do push-ups without incredible pain so I started back to the gym, I'm hoping to be down 20 lbs by summer.

It was from a fairly big family member...6'4", 250lb.
It was always a little big for my frame size.

In any event it's still here for ya if you ever get down this way (north OC).

I'm 5'8" 235 right now, I learned on a 71" O'Brien that was my GF's dad's, he was 6'7" 270ish

I'm still trying to figure out how to get down there, I'd hate to drive down there just for the ski. Don't have the money for Disneyland right now or the time off.

I broke a rope once, on the cut, that hurt. LOL
Times have changed. Now it's to ensure nobody loses an eye getting you on top of the water. :p
Good luck, I'm rooting for you to pop out on the first try.

if your a big boy , 200/300 lbs get the big daddy .
The only problem with it , you get use to getting up real easy on it. That when you want. to get into a more performance ski , it will take a lot more work.
Losing weight and arm strength exercises , will benefit the most.

I would try something more modern than a 360. I have two of them and enjoy them both, but I think the new HO's, Radar, whatever are a better all around ski. They will get you out of the water and perform better as your skill level returns.

I've had the Big Daddy for at least 14 or 15 years now. I got it to ski behind our Daytona, just couldn't hang on/hold my breath long enough anymore waiting for it to build power/get on plane. Just had to replace the boot last summer after my son took it for a spin/wipeout. If you're just looking for a ski to get up and do a bit of cutting back and forth it's a great ski. If you're looking for any performance out of it, it's not the right ski.

I started using wrap handles to get up, just lock em behind you and let them do the work.
