Bump. Seeing how the GF called my bluff and bought me a life jacket to start skiing again, I'm on the hunt for a water ski. What are the slalom skis of choice these days?

Go with a freeride type of ski. They are wider, comfortable and offer some performance. Get the lace up bindings, they will allow you to ski longer than your back will. Key, remember to NOT bring the rope in by doing curls, arms always straight and you'll ski longer.
http://www.hosports.com/product-detail.php?id=waterskis-freeride. HO has some nice ones, as does Radar, and others. Choose the bigger ski based on the weight range.

X2 on the freeride-type ski. The HO Triumph is a good one and you can usually find some decent deal on older stock online or second hand.

I always take the 360 and HO triumph with me on the boat. I could bring the Triumph/360 back for you to try. I'll be in havasu weekend of the 12th.

It was a beat up fiberglass ski I sold a buddy. He just sent me these pics. Nice way to make a beat up ski look good.

I have an old glass one that I'd like to doll up a bit. I was even thinking of peeling off the OG Maha stickers and going stealth. But that looks really cool. Any idea what that costs?

Good luck in your hunt. The 360s pop up on occasion but when they do you have to jump on them.

Someone keeps buying them all up. One would think that they are a 10' schiada [emoji6]

Not me.....But i did find out who. The guy has at least 20 of them in his garage. He tried to buy my skis when I put them up for sale

Beautiful ski. I skied on a 360 for the first time a few weeks ago and I'd have to agree. Unless your running buoys, this is the board to ride.

You guys but them all! Lol

I'm buying a ski this week. I plan on attempting to ski in the next "2 weeks"

Riding a Big ho, sorta like riding a moped. Fun to do, just don't want your friends to see you doing it. So to speak...

Go to Sports Chalet, rent a Big Daddy for a day, and get your groove back.

I got up on RD's Big Daddy Ski a few summers ago, I was in horrible shape and I was a smoker. I'm fairly certain I can get my groove back if I dedicate a weekend to strictly skiing on a new to me ski

I like this one. Im 5'11 240 lbs right now. not sure if I should go with a 69'' or a 71'':hmm

http://www.hosports.com/product-detail.php?id=waterskis-tx

Any suggestions on length? What bindings should I go with ?
Factory is 190-250 for the 69, and given your vertical situation I'd stay with the 69 unless you are looking to add another 20 anytime soon. I've been happy with these guys http://www.perfski.com/ see if they have last year's model and you can choose bindings. Btw go with the rtp (rear toe piece) that way you can one foot start, which is much easier for starts after a long time off. As well, shore starts are still possible after a long nape.

What do you guys think about something like this for someone 5-9" - 6' in the 185lb range?

Always skied on Murdoch's , one all wood 66" , one wood 65" with the blue laminated plastic top and loved my Dad's friends Murdoch racing ski . That racing ski was so nice could ski from Windsor to Havasu springs non stop have lunch and ski back , mostly because Dad's boat had 4 seats and there was usually 5 of us . Got out of boating for some years and now I'm back and wanted to ski again . Now that I gained a few pounds ( pushing 200lbs ) I bought a 69" HO Freeride used it a few times even though I can't go very far anymore ( old and out of shape ) it was easy to get up on and way fun . Now for those new style lace up boots :yikes . I need to learn a trick or two on how to get in those things , it wore me out just getting the ski on !!!! Looking for an old Murdoch racing ski , Maha GS or 360 maybe all if I can find them for a decent price .

Size should be ok. It's a mid range ski, here's a good comparison article: http://www.waterskimag.com/features/2008/05/01/find-the-right-ski/ the Triumph has a really wide forebody which helps the ski carry the top end weight but it's shape will limit the performance a bit. For cruising and wake jumping it looks like a good deal, IMHO.

I tried one like that with the fat head and had a hell of a time with it for some reason. I went and grab my old pos Big 5 special I had and was up going with no issues. Not sure what the deal was but I hated it. First time on my 360 blew my mind. I was like there's no way this can be this easy. Too bad my arms and back couldn't last longer hanging onto the single handle rope though. I've got a bridle now that I need to try and get some practice with. Hopefully this summer I'll get some time with it.
