Just read through the whole thread hoping to learn some info on ropes. I'm after a couple of ropes. I'd like to get a standard handle rope and one of the wrap around style ropes for use after my first ride and I'm all worn out. I purchased the only ski rope offered at my local West Marine and it's like skiing with a rubber band. It stretches way too much, and the handle is much too narrow. It is going in the trash. Can anyone point me to a couple good ropes for a decent beginner-intermediate skiier?

Thanks

Edit: Here's a couple pics of my second time on a slalom ski in probably 10 years. These were behind my buddies boat in Havasu last year. Since, I've purchased my own boat and need to outfit it with some proper ropes. I'm not a fan of what he had either.....

Try a wakeboard rope.
Good ones are zero stretch and have wide handles.
Only downside is they don't have tie off loops at the standard tie off lengths, so you'll have to mark them ....and learn to do half hitch loop to attach it to the ski bar.

I'm looking at the overcast skies and thinking I might climb the ladder or success and while I'm at the top I might as well trim the palm tree. o_O

That or I'm heading over to the @Skyskier compound and hang a door. :)

I restored one once, I would say don't bother. It's actually very difficult to do it correctly. Bob at maharaja actually advised against it because he says at the time they start splitting they become unsafe to use.
Hello sir, do have anymore maherajah 360's for sale by chance ?

I "use" to ski weekly with a small group. Older now, have a place on Parker Strip. If anyone ever needs a flagger, wants to get together to ski, pm me. I am old, but believe I still can. Have a boat, but not a driver. Boat is a little tricky.

Work in progress on the boat, upholstery done, engine just rebuild, waiting for install. Good runner, and good for skiing. 496 FE, V-drive, 2 speed powerglide.

@cofooter

Hats off to you. I’m thinking too cold for my walk and you’re out tearing it up on glass. Well done.

The new boat has a pylon on it and it supposed to make a nice flat wake so we picked up his and hers at the boat show and I’m setting a goal to get my ass in shape and ski again. They said these were a good beginner ski, we’ll find out when it’s warmer.

I’d probably drill a hole in that one on the far right for a rope with handles! — for some sit down skiing!:D

a shot of most of the skis my family had from the 60's and 70s. Have them all at the river now but haven't decided on how to display them.

Left to right, the first ski (plank) dad had, I think it's an early Velmar but not 100% sure. Then Dad's Velmar with his name and a Vogue skag. My 2nd Brad, traded my first Brad in on this. That first one was really a good looking ski, all light woods in it, not the traditional looking Brad. Had to put a Maja rubber cap on it, had the ski on the floor of the boat and we had the little front engine cover off to set the timing. Hit the gas and my ski slid back into the crank pulley and chewed the tip off. The ski was almost brand new and I fucked it. The Big H is a FeatherGlide from the Lake Eland ski shop in Elisnore. Bought this one for 5 bucks from a neighbor. Then my uncle Rick's Velmar, mom's Taperflex and an old Kimball that was just always around for a beginner ski.

Above the tiki bar at the river (still under construction) is my first ski, a Captain Kid. "America's finest ski" printed on the deck so it must be true. Got this in '63 when I was 7, don't know what happened to the other one as it was one of a set of doubles. My cousins and I learned on these.

Also a shot of dad's Vogue skag, he could really lean with that much aluminum in the water. My uncle on this ski and trying to drag his elbow like dad was able to do, fell and gave himself whiplash. Had to be taken to the Needles hospital from Bulldhead and spent a few days in there. This was about '65 and I can still remember that hospital room in the middle of summer. Hotter than hell and the beds all looked like something out of a 1940's movie, nurses all in white and wearing those little white paper cap things in their hair...the fucking heat is what I remember most.

I need to get my Grandma's wood Connelly Hook from their house. It's a gorgeous ski.

Very cool! You don’t see too many Velmars anymore. Here is mine from the 70’s. Gave it a rip at Bass Lake several years ago. Now I have it on display in our Havasu house.

I have a ton of old skis. Probably 30 of them. Mostly all Vogue's. Some used from the 60's id guess and some brand new with no holes in them from the 80's. Ive been trying to think of how to display them in my house. Hang them somehow cool on the wall. But I havent really put much thought into it. Need to get it done though.

We have an awesome group of friends, the origins of this group go back to the mid 40's with my Dad and Mom and their high school and middle school friends. Thru the years others came along as family of friends and friends or friends and people we met at the river etc.... The Moons family is one of these awesome families we have been linked with forever...Last winter Momma Moons (Vicky) asks me if i could fix her ski, it had a crack in the nose, no biggie was ale to fix pretty quick, but the ski was butt ugly, yellow with some early 80's stripes. I decided to clean this thing up for her, they have a super clean Malibu with blues and a pink stripe so hey let's match the boat. The bad thing was that I forgot about the ski! I set it on my ski racks last winter and just forgot about it until the other day. They spend every other week up at Kings river and they leave next Sunday, opps, I knocked this out for her, I did the bottom in an enamel and used an epoxy primer and base coats on the top.
