My dad didnt have one, and when my grandpa offered him their Spectra my dad turned him down because my brothers and I didn't ski (I was about 10 at the time). I don't let him forget that.

First was a yellow trihull of some sort in the late 70s... Few years later an Ebbtide runabout. Both Evinrude powered.

My parents were not into the boat seat. My parents were hardcore car fanatics.
Same here, I was helping my dad build and change engines out of his el camino, camaros, corvettes, etc when I was 5. He didn't keep any car to long, that definitely rubbed off on me. Now he restores old John Deere and Farmall tractors. My Wife got me into boating when I met her after I moved to Vegas, her family had a place at Walter's Camp and she spent every weekend there from toddler age.

Early 80's 17'6" Larson runabout with 150 hp Merc Black Max. We took that thing everywhere and were out just about every other weekend! Catalina, all up and down the coast, Salton Sea, Havasu. It was a great boat to grow up around.

A mid-60's 19' Birchcraft (wooden) with a white 6 cyl inline Mercury motor hanging off the transom. Got dragged all around SoCal, fresh and salt water fishing.

Garwood twin cockpit runabout... it sank tied to the dock at Lake Holiday, he gave it to the marina mechanic back in about 1968

1974 Santana 1/4 ton sailboat he kept in MDR, but could never figure out how to start the outboard when he needed it. I remember getting the call once when he was stuck in the wrong basin because he could not start the outboard, I fired it right up and went back to the valley.

He knew nothing about boats, much less wood boats!

1973 Glastron tri-hull with a 65hp Johnson pushing it.
Learned to ski in the 60's behind my uncles 63 Glastron.
We also had a 14' fiberglass fishing boat with a 25hp Johnson?

My dad’s coolest boat was a 72,15’ checkmate with a 135 merc and a stainless prop. Went 70 according to the speedo and you really had to work the steering to keep it from chine walking. Fun times and he was so proud of that boat- RIP.

Valco aluminum boat with a 15hp - Traded to demolition guys blowing up rocks in our back yard

19' tri-hull with an I/O - Required a shot of starting fluid at all times. Ran around Havasu and out of Long Beach for years. We made Catalina runs in that thing which in retrospect was nuts.

32' Luhrs twin screw flybridge in a slip in Long Beach. We fished most Saturday mornings and spent quite a few weekends over at Catalina on a mooring. I wish I would have bought that boat from him.

70' twin diesel cruiser in a slip in Long Beach. Lived aboard for about a year as he finished up to his retirement after cashing out in the RE market in 2006.

My parents never owned a boat and never really cared about boats except that they loved the ocean. But I have always loved the stories from people whose parents had boats and that is what got them into it. It’s that sentiment why I love having my kids grow up around boats. So they can look back and be like, “I remember my parents offshore boats and going boating in the ocean and the lakes as kids…” set the hook for them to want to work hard and get a boat of their own. Worked for our daughter who currently owns a cigarette with her husband. Pretty sure boys will be wanting to buy boats when they’re older. They love it!

First boat I remember him having was a sail boat, boring as can be, and i get sea sick! So f' that shit

Second boat was a 76-78 18' Kona with a 150hp merc outboard. We had a ton of fun on this thing. It looked like a bowling ball with the super heavy flake under urethane

Third boat is a 96 21' GMT tunnel w/ 200 yamaha on it w/ a shot of n2o

1980 Sleekcraft Jr. Executive Jet with a 454. We had so much fun with that boat. When we weren't at Castaic we were at Havasu. Lots of great memories. I wish I still had it, it was a great boat!

2005 Magic Wizard with the 525. He unfortunately didn't get to enjoy it for very long but it was his dream boat!

For me it was my Mom. This is her with her 19' Hallett jet boat somewhere around park moabi back in the 70's. Had a 427 with big ol Basset headers until I talked her into getting through transom exhaust after burning too many ski ropes. Loved that boat. 😎🤙

My dad bought a Chris Craft wood boat kit in the 50's. He built it in our garage over a winter. It was a 14' runabout. He found a "fine" 25 hp Elgin outboard motor for it. It was the cat's ass for me as a little kid. It scooted along pretty good, when you could get that damn Elgin to run. Those old motors were cantankerous as hell. He was a dedicated Gulf Oil employee back then and I'll never forget, he stained the deck a dark red and painted the sides in Gulf Oil purple with white trim.

Wow!! Hadn't thought about that little boat in a long time. Thanks for reminding me.
