Looks like a promax 300 with a 15" mid. However the owner says it is a 2.5 that had been built to a 3.1. That would lead me to believe it is a 225 with work done.

The only thing throwing me off is the cowling latches on the sides rather than the single latch in the rear like I am used to.

What say the Church? Year/model?

Same engine, cowling off:

Well, it's not a 2.5.

300 with a 15"? Looks like Hoffman got a hold of it? I could be completely wrong, but I do know it is not a 2.5

Ok, so I looked back on Instagram and saw this. I am pretty sure it is the same motor...

15" 3.1l motor. Started life as a 250. Custom porting, balanced rods, .40 over wsm coated pistons, 7200 ignition, and programming.

Thanks for that. So I am familiar with the 260/280, what would a 250 have been? Is that in the promax family?

Mercury’s naming from that era isn’t the easiest to understand lol

Let’s see the boat it’s attached to! Looks like a hell of a hotrod!
