Just got back from Mexico (Vallarta and Punta de Mita). Everything is open unlike socialist California. Safety protocols for Covid are taken very serious and the locals appreciate the tourists.

Find yourself a nice resort in Mexico which is 2 hours away from the US. Get your drink and relaxation on at the same time, you don't need to leave hotel, if your worried about the cartel, gunning you down. You'll be safe.

Punta de Mita - North of Puerto Vallarta - W Punta de Mita or St. Regis.
San Jose del Cabo - JW Marriott or Solaz or Zadun - San Jose has a lot of restaurants and I'm sure San Jose or Cabo San Lucas will be a great way to spend New Years.
Schedule a pick up/drop off with the hotel for the airport transportation.

Yup, you're correct. The serving president only needs to be a natural born US citizen at time of birth to be eligible. Parental units citizenship at time of birth does not factor.
