Just wondering if any one has done the Teague marine Whipple upgrade on their 496HO. I’m looking for a little more power for my magic deck boat. Also what props are you guys running with the stock 496HO to help get on plan easier. It seems like it hits a wall around 4000 rpm with a full load of people, so I want to be able to plane easier. Any tips to help this

Get a max machine tail before you spend any big money, it’s amazing the difference it makes getting on plane.

A 496 whipple won’t last unless you replace the internals with forged stuff first.

Does the drive itself help get on plane or the combo of the drive and additional power ?

Its a tail / foil that bolts on to your cav plate, my daytona 26 will roll over on plane as low as 2000 rpm, without it it took close to 4000 rpm to do so.

Are you running a 24 bravo right now?

maybe try a larger diameter less pitch prop like a 23 or a 21 revolution

yes it’s a 24 bravo on it right now. We have a shop here that will let you test props before buying so I’ll give that a try also 👍

Teague was the one that told me to put a 22 bravo on my magic deck. It now accelerates way better and with tabs it comes on plane right away.

Agree with this 100%. 22p and some tabs is the way to go, especially in Summer and/or fully loaded boats.

I dont recommend tail foils of any kind, especially if you dont have external hydraulic steering,

They tear up gimbal rings...
