Thinking of putting a whole house fan in mom's house down in Bay Park. Anyone here know of someone that does installation? The house is 1470 sq ft, built in the late 60's or early 70's, I can get a good fan for about $ 900.00 to $ 1,000.00, just not able to do the install. Found a Lake Forest company that gave me a rough internet quote of $ 1,800.00 to $ 2,000.00 complete but not sure they go down to SD. Thanks

I just installed mine two months ago, very simple, I bought an airscape fan and customer service is amazing. 1000 is way too much for install in my opinion (of course depending on attic access and available power) it took me less than 2 hours.

I'd put it on a dedicated circuit, not just find power up there. That's probably why the company is charging that much. To pull a new circuit from the panel and add a switch on the wall, I'd want at least a grand. Climbing in residential attics suck. Especially in the summer. Then there's the install of the actual unit. I think $1,000 - $1,500 is reasonable, if done right.

This job will take 2 guys 8 hours and approx $250 worth of misc materials +950 for the fan. so the question is how much an hour for the labor and Profit? 16 hrs X $50 = $800 So you have 250 + 950 + 800 = $2000 with no Profit or overhead or gas for your truck

Every house is different, but I had the ceiling cut, line ran, and blowing before noon. Two guys taking a full day seems a bit much? Maybe I'm off.

Im sure he figured 2 guys 8 hrs as a worst case. The guys get done early and you make more profit. :p

Ya and you don't rush electricians. Unless you want to eat the profit on a service call. :D

Thanks for the info. Family will be making the decision this weekend. If we decide to go forward I'll give him a call.

Exactly.....We have done a few for board members and after everything was said and done we were lucky to break even. U less they are being bundled with an AC install, we just can't afford to do them. Add that to the fact I will ONLY install quiet cools which adds to the cost.

Unfortunately SD is not in our service area.

That's what I was thinking, no $$ in it for you especially with the added expense for travel down to SD. Wasn't going to contact you about it until the family green lights the project, don't want to waste your time. Thanks for the reply.

Yep..I got a couple right now where we are loosing $$$$. :yikes But the good ones far out weigh the bad ones. :p

Hate it when that happens......Even at "making $100", we lose when overhead is factored in. It is what t is, I know down the penny what it costs me to put one in now.
