Fuel pump went bad because fuel sock disintegrated or melted in tank. Clogged injectors and fuel lines. Any ideas on how that could happen?

Did you leave fuel in it for a long time?

Clean or replace the injectors. Clean out the lines, replace the pump and you should be rolling again, right?

Did just that. But I was wondering why the pickup sock would melt or disintegrate.
It’s a gas tank, there’s always gas in it.
Thanks

My thought would be ethanol content as well perhaps.
