Finally got my first jet boat and love it. The boat is in super great shape but the bottom looks horrible. Any estimates on what something like this would cost to make looking like new? The boat is a 1984 Hallett. I plan on adding some big N/A power and some jet work as well over the winter

I think before addressing the rash you might want to step back a moment and consider some options.

You could simply fix the rash now.
Considering you’re going to be adding a big inch engine and pump work I’m assuming you want to go faster?

If it were me, part of my plan would be looking at the entire bottom. It’s an 84, probably not exactly straight under there anymore;)
In the quest for performance lots of guys overlook one of the most important aspect. The bottom.
If you already have to respray the bottom of the boat....;)
Seen lots of guys throw thousands and thousands of dollars under the hatch to gain a couple miles an hour. Seen others actually go slower:D
Because they threw it all at a boat with so much hook in it it wanted to dive on hard acceleration, lol.

Thank you for this information as I am still learning. So my issue is I am in Northern Nevada and there are not a lot of places that even do Gel or work on these kinds of boats. I like to do things right the first time if possible so would this be the kind of job I should take to a shop that caters to this kind of work? Any suggestions as I don't mind traveling or paying for quality work. So is this called Blueprinting the bottom? Not looking for exact costs but a ballpark to have this work done? Is this 4-5k job or a 2-3k job if anyone has an idea? Just trying to plan.

I know this hull will not be the fastest boat out on the lake but my goal is to make this a very nice boat that runs at its full potential.
thanks
Scott

Yes blueprinting the bottom is a great idea if you are going with more power and expecting to make gains (feel it in the seat dyno). There has to be a shop over the hill in Sac that can do this, maybe RogerThat99 can chime in?

REnodaytona how are you doing? You get your motor back together yet? Putting my 555 back together for the Advantage this weekend with a new set of Brodix heads with Jesel shafts to replace the iron 088's it had.
I am planning on a 540 to replace the pretty stock 454 in the Hallett. Looking for around 700HP. Should be a good winter project, hopefully I can find a shop to do the blueprinting closer than southern cal.

I'm doing really good, had some things come up since we pulled the motor and it's been on the back burner. I need a new short block so I think I'll be getting a hold of you when I'm ready to get that going which will be this winter as well. I did pick up a 1977 Ski Nautique Competition super cheap and it's a blast to take to the smaller lakes.

Let me know the next time you guys plan on heading to Lahontan (looks like you took the Hallett there from the one pic). We can drag the 77 SN out and meet up.

We will for sure let you know, we have been having a blast out there with the smaller boat. For sure let me know about what you want for a short block. I am helping another friend build a 540 for his V-drive this winter. Should be a blast with 800-900HP!!!
