Makes our 200 & 275 look like toys lol

Are there designated routes for when it's on the road? How do bridges handle it?

Yes. Depending on the size, there are very strict "inner" and "outer" bridge laws. California laws are the most strict..... shocker. The laws they pass are driven by bridge regulations that are antiquated and arent valid anymore.

What model 200 and 275 do you have? Who do you work for?

That has to be a crazy expense. How long on average for them to recoup. Are most in a rental fleet or do companies buy for own use?

Sometimes when heavy equipment like that gets moved on bridges, they'll actually survey where the girder walls are in an attempt to distribute the weight evenly throughout the structure.

We had a 350t crane come in to set a new transformer last year. The transformer company forgot to order mats and the crane had to set up on the sod next to the substation. Didn't even leave tire marks in the grass, all those wheels do a great job of distributing the weight of the crane.

Most of the "all terrain" (mobile cranes) are purchased by crane rental services (i.e., Bragg, Mr. Crane, Hill Crane, etc).

Recoup time is tough to gauge. This size crane can range from $1500 to $2000 per day in rent. Depending on what you are doing.

that seems really cheap. I was paying $400ish to set rooftop HVAC units back in the day.

Craig, this is a dumb question, but do you know how to operate the cranes and stuff you sell? When it is delivered to the customer do you do a on site delivery; meaning go through all the controls and such? Show them how to use everything and all the features? Must be complicated as hell!

We have a 200t Demag and a new 275t link belt.

I work for marathon oil refinery. I work in the machine shop not the rigging dept. We only get to play with the 4 & 8t brodersons.... none of the big boy toys.

Yeh. I know the basics but am not great at it.

When you purchase a crane from me we send out a crane tech to load out the crane and unload it to wherever you want it. When it arrives and you need training we do that as well. We have crane techs that do training on site, at your yard, etc. All free of charge. If you need him to stay 2 days, 5 days, whatever, he will stay.

We also train you on how to work and plan crane picks with our software.

Yeh. He still refuses to buy one from me. I will keep at it.

I have a friend that works there. I'll mention your name when I see him in the next few days. That is if I knew your name. :D

I've rented a 275t AT from Champion. It was $10.5k for a day. The crane itself was probably around $3500 or $4000 on an 8hr minimum. The counterweight trucking on these big cranes and manpower to get them operational for the pick is where the bulk of the money is spent.

Thanks for sharing your photos. I love big iron and working with cranes, it's by far my favorite part of my job! I've thought about finding a job solely doing heavy lift planning and design, but working for a Heavy Civil GC provides a lot more variety that keeps things interesting.

Super cool. Does Liebherr make their own chassis? What drive power, and I assume another engine for the crane itself?

No

Marco transport in SoCal hails equipment.

The crane I posted is for Marco Crane and Rigging. They also have a branch in SoCal along with Phoenix

All cranes with the exception of 2 have Liebhere engines in them. Some of the all Terrain cranes have 2 engines. When we design new models they will all be single engine. We have an entire engine factory in Switzerland

We've used Marco a couple times when we have bigger picks (typically longer reach). Probably will need to use them at a job I'm PM'ing in downtown Tucson. They got some nice equipment that's for sure. I love crane days. One of my favorite parts of the job.

We use large cranes occasionally on our jobs. Rented a 500 ton for a day in July and I’m pretty sure it was in the neighborhood of 30k for 12 hours...

Gilbert I think.
Ahh... ok. Wefe doing a large 2+ story tilt-up in Tucson and I didn't think the walls were that high, but for a 100,000 sq.ft. building..... I don't know (I'm not PM'ing the job so I'm not too sure of the details).
