I feel like OSB price is far more volatile than gas. Anywhere from $7-32 a sheet?!?! please explain

2x4 studs used to be $2-$3, now $6. Probably not going toget better with all the construction from previous fires, and currently losing hundreds/thousands of structures now.

Ever try to run a manufacturing company during a pandemic?

Just keeping business open and running is an unbelievable challenge.

EVERY company is running at reduced capacity with increased expenses.

I have 2 sheets of plywood in my truck for under counter tops. Went from 17.10 to $33.90 a sheet. All the materials I use went up most 25-40%.

I have never paid as much attention to materials as I do now. In my safety / You fuckers better not get covid  meeting last week I explained that any "measure once go back to the Box" will be on you. Like I would know but now they think I'm watching... for like a day.

Those same sheets are up to $48 now. Buying Portland today its up almost 50%. Also picking up a cabinet order price has not gone up since last increase from tariffs but still 50% more than I used to pay.

Bought 19/32 plywood today for countertop installation tomorrow. $41.30. Just keeps going up. 1 1/8 is $71 and change.

FYI. Cost market went up another few percent on framing and sheathing products yesterday.

Last year, I paid about $10 for a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" OSB. I needed 40 sheets. Well, yesterday I needed one more sheet, and it was $32. I say BS on Covid related. I believe it is tied to using a crisis to increase profits. Greed, plain and simple.

It started as Covid related. The amount of projects started when people started working from home was staggering. That drove insane demand in fencing, Pressure treated and any board. Housing prices going up drives new Constrcution which will keep framing/plywood going up. These categories are mildly impacted by weather and production. (Too much rain and they can get the logs. Not enough labor and the logs sit there).
The truer indicator is copper IMO. It’s been on a pretty good run..

It’s not going down either
Yep. Once it goes up never comes back down. Building costs are up cause of materials but not slowing down Building. Just got off the phone with Architect she has 20 projects in the process of going or in plan check. Nobody is stopping waiting for lumber to drop.
