I know zero about these things but I’m looking for something to cruise around the neighborhood and a little off-road. Not trying to be Robby Gordon just want to putt around in the woods with my kids at our cabin. Neighbor has an 07 Rhino 660 with 3800 miles he wants to sell me for $4500. It’s all stock other than cage and added seat in the bed as well as wheels/tires. Is that a deal? Anything I should look for or be aware of on these? Thanks

I would jump on it. Rhinos aren't speed demons like the new utv's but they are pretty capable.

In today’s market it’s probably a good deal. I sold an 07, completely modded (cage, suspension. Aluminum, wheels, tires etc...) a year ago for about the same price. Very reliable little vehicle. The only downside was the carb would dry out in the summer heat pretty fast. I put an aftermarket fuel pump on mine and it was a lot better.

Looks clean at a very decent price, they're little work horses, although I don't think I'd use the backseat.

I had one with a carb. Pain in the a$$ to start if you haven't used it in a while. But works great once you get it started. No problems with EFI.

Put a primer bulb from an outboard motor on the fuel supply line. Squeeze it a few times and it will start right up. Plus you don’t have the added complexity associated with adding an electric fuel pump.

I had the same model. If it won’t do at least 35 MPH, the sheaves probably need servicing and greasing. If it is stock it will be speed limited to around 38 MPH.

Good price.

Your right leg is gonna melt from heat and you'll have a cramp from pushing the gas pedal with the side of your foot crammed against the tunnel! But you'll get anywhere you want to go eventually......

Had one friend die because of seat belt failure on a rhino. And another buddy get really lucky because he tucked into the driver during a rollover

We bought ours upgraded 4 years ago and won’t upgrade til it straight dies. Jump on it if you can. My buddy has been looking for one, and nothing is out there for less than 6500.00 that’s worth a crap.
New seats and harnesses are a must though

So I bought this thing. Starts right up runs good. It’s got a DG exhaust on it that is loud as F. Anyone know a good exhaust that performs well and is quiet? It definitely gets hot on your legs and needs new front seats and belts.

Muzzy exhausts are reasonably quiet if you can find them. Stock is quietest but kills a little power. Here is an aftermarket replacement stock muffler.

Caltric Exhaust Muffler W/Spark Arrester And Gasket Compatible With Yamaha Rhino 660 Yxr660Fa 2004-2006 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07928MDTL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GMH58VZ37TXHAR132CB8

Or just take it to a muffler shop and have them throw a muffler on it. That is probably the most cost effective solution unless you hunt down some old exhaust.

You can do some stick on trans tunnel insulation on the motor doghouse deal to get it a little cooler, but it is always gonna be hot. It will be nice in the winter :)

I had an 06 Rhino for a number of years. It was awesome. Reliable, fun and fit in my short bed DMAX which no utv I will ever own will be able to do. A picture from a few years back.

I'd try to find one with EFI. Far less issues than carburated. I have a 08' EFI 700 that is one reliable summa bitch!

I just sold my Rhino last month, 2006 660 with JBS Clutch Kit, Black Rhino CDI, Aftermarket Cage, Twisted Stich Seats, 4point harnesses, full Muzzy exhaust, bed delete kit, Douglas wheels, lighted whip, low miles, etc. Had it listed for $5500 and couldn't get any serious buyers for a long time, lowered it to $5000 and started getting some interest, ended up selling it for $4850.

Do you have any documentation on seatbelt failures on Rhinos? I searched but couldn't find anything. Lots of info on its proclivity to roll over but nothing on seatbelt failure. We have a Rhino in our fire department we use for back country rescues. If there is a known seatbelt issue I'd like to address it. Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't. Just a first hand experience that was a near miss of a tragedy and a dead friend six months before 😢. I'd seriously recommend opening up the mechanism and looking over it at the very least. Both rollover incidents the seat belts unlocked and completely unraveled.

That’s what’s happened to mine. The part is on back order so I imagine it’s happened to others.
