My first boat was a kneeler hydro. Not really a hydro, it was all flat but look like it had sponsons. Second boat was a kneeler Glen l hydro my dad built. I helped a little bit in construction, but I absorbed a lot how things are built. Next boat was 8 ft pram, dad built also. Used as a chase boat for the hydro. Added a sail but couldn't sail it.
Had so much fun with that hydro. I'd build another one except my knees wouldn't have it.
First adult boat was a Sanger flat.
That's pretty funny! My 1710 was an ex ubg flat Ondalay. John Annon's boat. I bought it with an LS6 tunnel ram motor.Your story is almost exactly the same as mine! When I was14 (in 1961) my dad and I built a 8' hydro (plans came from Science & Mechanics Magazine). I put a 10 HP Johnson on it. I later bought another 8' 3 point hydro from a neighbor and sold mine to a friend, now I had someone to race. a couple of years later I bought a very rough 10' Class D DeSilva hydro and rebuilt it and put a Mercury Quick Silver MK 40 on it with a racing surface prop. Ran that for a few years and then bought a Sanger 17'10" hull, the old Porky Pig Blown Gas race boat hull and put a 426" Hemi in it. Those were fun years.
Possibly the same?Never seen either of my old boats, really kind of surprised about the 220. The older boat is a 69 Hallett jet. View attachment 845347 View attachment 845348
Hey man, we missed you at the get together, 2 years in a row. Hopefully you can make it out next time.Your story is almost exactly the same as mine! That's what happens if you leave 'em on the trailer, Jerry.
Thanks for the effort, but no that's a 230 that I've actually seen before. I'm not sure how many 230's and 220's Eliminator did that way, but a few. They're actually quite a bit different but the theme is the same. I heard mine went to the San Diego area in 2007 , but that's all I know. I wasn't the original owner either.
1986 Advantage 18 bubble deck, bought brand new in 86,(I was 21) sold in 2007 and found in New Mexico in 2015 went and bought it back
completely went through it and is 2018 NJBA 10.0 champ View attachment 845719
Had one just like this but was a 16'er. Took that sucker from Wahweap to Bullfrog at Powell in one day. Then back the next. So much fun...To be young and naive again...Will have to find other pics. As far as I know, it’s cut to pieces. My grandparents bought this one right off the cover and I sold it back around 06. New buyer only wanted it for the motor and said he’d be chopping it up.

#2 for me. Hondo Pantera v-drive. 460 Ford built by Mike Landy.First boat, 1971 Hondo jet. 460 Ford. I think it was 16.5' long. I was 21 years old and ordered it new from Hondo when they were on Vineland in North Hollywood.

You didnt tell us about the trailersMy first boat...bought when I was 18, was a '71 Hondo flat with a 400ci SBC. As usual, I didn't do any research until after I'd bought it. Ran like shit because the ignition timing was set about 10 degrees after TDC...once I sorted that out, it ran better but I don't think it ever did better than 40mph. I took it to the river once, and the prop shaft pulled out of the coupler and tore up the rudder about 10 minutes into day 1, so it went back on the trailer and I gave it away when I got home....so much wrong with it that it was cheaper just to start over with something else.
First boat that I actually had fun with and got some use out of was a runner bottom jet thing that was built by Jim Lange and John Kaiser to run BGJ back in the late '70s. I believe it was based on a MAKO V-drive hull and they put a huge pod on it with the pump set back so that the whole pump was behind the boat...Thing had about a 2' long driveshaft in it. That was a ton of fun until it broke and pitched me out.

Slacker. How dare you run a double axel trailer.Dual axles...of course. I didn't wise up and get a single axle trailer until later.
POS??Dual axles...of course. I didn't wise up and get a single axle trailer until later.
Gorgeous, we had a 78 Southwind as well, unfortunately long gone, worst decision to sell ever..I bought the Southwind back when I was twenty, over thirty-one years ago. And yes, I still have her. I have done a lot of upgrades throughout the years and like most boat owners, I will never get it back monetarily. But it's been fun and I have created a lot of great memories. She has been from Lake Mead down to the Lower River and every place in between. The Southwind has had a couple different looks over the years, I have ran both an air gap single carb and a tunnel ram dual carb deal. She is currently getting full-stringers, racing buckets and re-rigged. All the previous work was done at Pat's Fiberglass and Tom Papp Racing. Lew Larson built the 468 Chevy. Chris at B 1 Racing did the most recent pump work. The most recent goal was to have Bostick Racing Engines build me one of his Blue Collar 650 HP engines with a 100 to 200 HP shot of Nitrous. However, that goal has been put on hold since my accident.

My first boat was a competition tow boat. I loved the thing, took it everywhere. I didnt get a top tier boat like you did, and i wish i would have. That mastercraft is a no wood boat so you have piece of mind there.Just picked it up last may! already building great memories!!!
Details? I'm really not in the market, but am curious. Mine was a 1995 or so, Phil Bergeron had a deal buying bare hulls from Hallett and rigging them. I think he did about 10 or so at the time, mostly stern drives but maybe a jet or v drive.I have a Hallett 20ss v drive I’ll sell ya.
Mine is a ‘78 v drive. It was regelled and made into an open bow at Cole Boats, back when they were still around. It has a C500 and a 565” TTDetails? I'm really not in the market, but am curious.
