First boat (Kachina with a 460) and first SeaDoo with the in-laws boat and ski in the background on Mohave. FIL had a rack and winch on his trailer for the skis. So many trips and memories with those boats.
boat3.jpg

Sold the boat to some good river friends around 2001 and they still have it. Just finally had to rebuild the motor last year.

My first boat was a kneeler hydro. Not really a hydro, it was all flat but look like it had sponsons. Second boat was a kneeler Glen l hydro my dad built. I helped a little bit in construction, but I absorbed a lot how things are built. Next boat was 8 ft pram, dad built also. Used as a chase boat for the hydro. Added a sail but couldn't sail it.
Had so much fun with that hydro. I'd build another one except my knees wouldn't have it.
First adult boat was a Sanger flat.

Your story is almost exactly the same as mine! When I was14 (in 1961) my dad and I built a 8' hydro (plans came from Science & Mechanics Magazine). I put a 10 HP Johnson on it. I later bought another 8' 3 point hydro from a neighbor and sold mine to a friend, now I had someone to race. a couple of years later I bought a very rough 10' Class D DeSilva hydro and rebuilt it and put a Mercury Quick Silver MK 40 on it with a racing surface prop. Ran that for a few years and then bought a Sanger 17'10" hull, the old Porky Pig Blown Gas race boat hull and put a 426" Hemi in it. Those were fun years.

That's pretty funny! My 1710 was an ex ubg flat Ondalay. John Annon's boat. I bought it with an LS6 tunnel ram motor.

Hey man, we missed you at the get together, 2 years in a row. Hopefully you can make it out next time.

Thanks for the effort, but no that's a 230 that I've actually seen before. I'm not sure how many 230's and 220's Eliminator did that way, but a few. They're actually quite a bit different but the theme is the same. I heard mine went to the San Diego area in 2007 , but that's all I know. I wasn't the original owner either.

Will have to find other pics. As far as I know, it’s cut to pieces. My grandparents bought this one right off the cover and I sold it back around 06. New buyer only wanted it for the motor and said he’d be chopping it up.

Had one just like this but was a 16'er. Took that sucker from Wahweap to Bullfrog at Powell in one day. Then back the next. So much fun...To be young and naive again...

My first was a two man canoe that I strapped a 5 or 7.5hp outboard that I borrowed ;) from the local marina on the side of it and that thing was fast and fun on our local lake.

Second one was an 80's POS Bayliner Tri-Hull that we kept for about 4-5 years then gave it to charity. No pics of it but I'm sure you could imagine.

Third was a 19.5' Raysoncraft with a 225 BlackMax strapped on the back. That was a fun little boat and was fast. Sold it to Kyle at WOT Marine in 2010. He really took it to a new level when he refurbished it. Been thinking about asking him if he would sell it back to me...

First boat was a '73, 19 ft tri-hull, can't remember the make, with a 302 Ford, frozen block.
i got a decent deal on a wrecked 67 or 68 Mustang, 289. Put the two together and went to lake Powell for a week. Ran that 289 like it owed me money. Traded it for a wrecker a few years later. Still have the wrecker.

Wrecker paid for the next several boats

About 1991 bought a 18' Tahiti by Schuster Boats-Bellflower (vintage 60s) ,140hp 4 cyl Mercruiser with an Alpha outdrive, gold metal-flake (totally shot would wipe off on your hand), left hand/Port side steering with controls in the middle of the floor (total PIA), fresh black vinyl interior throughout hot as hell (wet towels on the seats before you got in), 12 gal fuel tank forward (kids could ski and tube all day on that), came with numerous USCG approved vests and an O'Brien tube which our grandkids still use today. I bought this boat from one of the engineers on my ship. He had brought everything up to pristine condition and used it for a few years. Total price was, including the trailer, $1200. Great boat, many memories and no complaints.

1977 Cole TR2, bought it in 86 at 19 and started racing it at 21. For years raced the 9 second bracket and used it on off weekends as a ski boat. Put on a bug catcher and switched to alcohol to run the 8 second bracket which ended using it as a ski boat. Sold it to a guy from Ohio who said he was going to put a turbo motor in it and tow it with a Cadillac, it deserved better than that but I needed the money to buy my first house. By far the best boat I’ve ever owned.

I remember my 1st boat...91 Hi-Tech Sabre 20.6.... I think it was a splash of something else (maybe Cole)....but with a euro style deck wrap around windshield. Anyway it was one of their first outboards...looking back it not was dialed in and only really took a set with smooth water. Top speed was 53ish with a blackmax 200 which should have told me it was not setup right. Too much motor in the water and cog not correct.....It had a land and sea rapid jack, torque shift prop...all the cool stuff....and most of all it was my move favorite gel scheme all my boats to date. Tequila sunrise fade that I would emulate today if building a new boat. It was in the March 1990 Hotboat Mag for the performance test... If anyone has that...would love a scan of it. This was the only pic I could find via google. My other pics are on my home pc.. It was good looking boat I sometimes want back and its styling was head of its time for a 1990 boat.

My first boat...bought when I was 18, was a '71 Hondo flat with a 400ci SBC. As usual, I didn't do any research until after I'd bought it. Ran like shit because the ignition timing was set about 10 degrees after TDC...once I sorted that out, it ran better but I don't think it ever did better than 40mph. I took it to the river once, and the prop shaft pulled out of the coupler and tore up the rudder about 10 minutes into day 1, so it went back on the trailer and I gave it away when I got home....so much wrong with it that it was cheaper just to start over with something else.

First boat that I actually had fun with and got some use out of was a runner bottom jet thing that was built by Jim Lange and John Kaiser to run BGJ back in the late '70s. I believe it was based on a MAKO V-drive hull and they put a huge pod on it with the pump set back so that the whole pump was behind the boat...Thing had about a 2' long driveshaft in it. That was a ton of fun until it broke and pitched me out.

The funny part, I couldn’t afford a waterski, it came with a barefoot boom so I learned how to barefoot ski.

I bought the Southwind back when I was twenty, over thirty-one years ago. And yes, I still have her. I have done a lot of upgrades throughout the years and like most boat owners, I will never get it back monetarily. But it's been fun and I have created a lot of great memories. She has been from Lake Mead down to the Lower River and every place in between. The Southwind has had a couple different looks over the years, I have ran both an air gap single carb and a tunnel ram dual carb deal. She is currently getting full-stringers, racing buckets and re-rigged. All the previous work was done at Pat's Fiberglass and Tom Papp Racing. Lew Larson built the 468 Chevy. Chris at B 1 Racing did the most recent pump work. The most recent goal was to have Bostick Racing Engines build me one of his Blue Collar 650 HP engines with a 100 to 200 HP shot of Nitrous. However, that goal has been put on hold since my accident.

My Granpa built my first boat. Sailed it all over Long Beach harbor at 7yrs old. No life jacket required. No cell phone. No gameboys. Just me and my Sabot.

Just picked it up last may! already building great memories!!!
My first boat was a competition tow boat. I loved the thing, took it everywhere. I didnt get a top tier boat like you did, and i wish i would have. That mastercraft is a no wood boat so you have piece of mind there.

Looks like san vincente reservior in the one picture, great little semi local lake

I have a Hallett 20ss v drive I’ll sell ya.
Details? I'm really not in the market, but am curious. Mine was a 1995 or so, Phil Bergeron had a deal buying bare hulls from Hallett and rigging them. I think he did about 10 or so at the time, mostly stern drives but maybe a jet or v drive.

Mine is a ‘78 v drive. It was regelled and made into an open bow at Cole Boats, back when they were still around. It has a C500 and a 565” TT

motor. It runs strong, has seen low 90’s gps, and is a great boat. Not really looking to sell it, BUT if someone really wanted it I would entertain it. The 20ss is a great hull, just not very popular or sought after.
